Celebrity Stylist Donny Galella shares some of his flattering fashion tips
1 CELEBRATE
“Those old-school rules about ‘You can’t wear this or that’ can be broken. Wear whatever makes you feel fabulous and confident. Clothes are powerful and transformative, but confidence comes first.”
2 SUPPORT
“The older you are, the more critical it becomes that you wear a good-fitting bra; it will make all your clothes look better and give you shape and support when needed.”
3 AVOID
“Steer away from wearing drastic versions of a trend. For example, ripped jeans. Rather than a really shredded pair, opt for a some that are just slightly distressed.”
4 STRETCH
“I always find a dark coloured blue jean made from a stretch denim in a slim leg always looks ageless and great.”
5 AVOID
“Trendy jeans styles. Mum jeans made from stiff, thick, unflattering fabrics, usually look awful on the body. Remember trends
are not always the most flattering option.”
6 PINTEREST
“Want help finding your own ageless style? Create a Pinterest page, and save images of your style crushes. This will help you create looks and outfits and help you when shopping.”
7 EMBELLISH
“Colour is powerful — it can instantly make us feel more confident and younger. If you do wear dark colours, add pops of colour with a chic silk scarf, earrings, colourful lip.”
8 PROPORTION
“Conservative dressing can still look chic, and proportions are key, such as with your hemline. If you feel too covered up, roll up your sleeve a little, show some skin,
add a sexy looking heel or a red lip. Elegance will always be chic.”
9 ACCESSORISE
“If you look at celebs like Amal Clooney, Emma Stone, Victoria Beckham, they generally look conservative but throw in an unexpected element or statement accessory like a fun clutch or big colourful earring to spice up the look.”
10 OUTSOURCE
“Be open to seeing a stylist. We consult dentists, chiros, physios, personal trainers, even hairdressers, yet we wear clothes every day and don’t think to ask for help. Invest in seeing a stylist. Learn where to shop, how to shop better, and what styles will make you feel more confident.”
