It’s swept its way through skincare in Asia and Europe, now Aussies are going weak at the (dry) knees and fine facial lines over Jelly skincare.
‘Jelly’ is a term used for that sweet last-minute lifesaver the little ones so love, and the not so palatable scantily clad form of wrestling. Yes, quite the contradiction.
But what is even more surprising is its rise as the favoured texture in skincare. Made from a mix of water and a thickening agent – such as polymer or polysaccharide – Jelly is a cuter, more consumer-driven term used for gels that are proving easily absorbed by the skin due to the water base providing a surge of moisture without the heavy film, explains Dia Foley, VP Sales and Marketing for Indeed Labs skincare.
“Gels are not just great for those with oily skin, but for anyone who doesn’t like the feel of heavy products on their skin,” explains Di. “They are refreshingly light in hot temperatures as well as under makeup which is especially important when you’re potentially layering moisturiser, primer, sunscreen, foundation and powder.”
Unless your skin is extremely dry, gels should work well for most complexions. However, if your skin is drier, avoid products containing alcohol, advises Dia. And most importantly, take your time with the application process when you can. “Gently massaging in your moisturiser helps to plump the skin,” she urges.

Burt’s Bees Beeswax and Royal Jelly Eye Cream, $27.65, from selected pharmacies, contains Apricot kernel oil and beeswax within a smooth, cooling gel texture. It contains royal jelly and is 94.2% natural.
