Celebrity Recipes that Contain Alkaline Foods To Better Your Health

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Deliciously nourishing and tasty recipes from the world’s healthiest cafes, hotels, spas, experts and celebrities. Authors Tali Shine (health and wellness expert) and Steph Adams (digital influence and former model) have chosen a selection of gluten-free recipes from around the globe.

Read below to find out what foods you need to keep your body at optimal health and what health hacks they learnt from the celebs and global health experts!

Authors-GoodtoGlow

According to Dr. Ragnar Berg his studies found that disease can not live in an alkaline environment. Which means if you eat a healthy diet 80% of the time, you are keeping your body disease free. Dr. Berg, believes the body needs to maintain a slightly alkaline level of 7.35 – 7.45 pH for fighting diseases and maintaining optimal health.

We found through our research with celebrities that many of their recipes contained alkaline ingredient to better your health and keep you disease free.

Here are four foods you need to keep your body in optimal health:

1. Green Juice: The greens in a green juice such as spinach, kale, chard, and collards are rich in folate and vitamin K and have a wealth of health benefits. They are also great helpers for the digestive system.

2. Watermelons are another great alkaline-forming food, and are a great diuretic to boot.

3. Apples have a pH level of about 8.0. They are also rich in fiber, which makes them great for digestion.

4. Broccoli

What we learnt from celebrities

Some of the celebrities that have contributed healthy recipes to Good to Glow have taught us that eating nutritionally for them is a way of life, but just like us they do allow themselves what they want a small 10-20% of the time, as its unrealistic to stay completely healthy 100% of the time.

Here are some of the tips that we discovered from the likes of:

Elle McPherson, Lorna Jane, Melissa Odabash, Matt Moran, Jessica Sepel, Gabriella Peacock, Deb Symonds, Julie Stevanja, Ashlea Talbot, Lisa Clayton, Lohralee Astor and Christiane Duigan.

Hydration is Key!

Drinking the correct amount of purified water is vital, as it flushes out toxins. We take a leaf out of Elle Macpherson’s book and start the day lemon and hot water, and drink anti-oxidant rich green tea throughout the day.

We also add 2 tablespoons of chlorophyll to our filtered water at least once a day (available in most pharmacies and health food stores) as chlorophyll aids in detoxification and contains doses of phytonutrients.

Elle MacPherson has created an incredible superfood supplements called The Super Elixir which we add to our morning smoothie as it is filled with alkalising super greens as well as digestive enzymes and Chinese herbs . Elle’s favourite recipe, a Pina Colada smoothie, which is included in our book can be seen below. Smoothies are a great way to drink your vegetables, whilst making sure that you get fiber, anti-oxidants and important minerals

No refined sugar

Refined sugar is our big no-no. It is a poison to the body and will stop you being able to effectively lose weight, especially around the middle area. Sugar is a pure, refined carbohydrate with no nutrient or mineral value. It is also highly addictive and can cause irritability, fluctuations in energy levels and an inability to concentrate. The good news is that our book is filled with many delicious treats that have healthier alternatives like dates, maple and rice malt syrup and berries. Sarah Wilson, Melissa Oddabash and our very own sweet yet nutritious treats are included in Good to Glow, so no one needs to go without.

Good Fats and Oils

We don’t believe in avoiding fats, it is really important the body does get some fats, that are necessary for the body and brain to function. Super trainer James Duigan from Bodyism stresses the importance of omegas and good fats for weight loss around the middle, and even produces his own supplement. Good fats and oils also gives the skin, hair and nails the support it needs to be strong, healthy and to glow. We love incorporating organic, cold-pressed coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil into our salads. We also make sure that our diets are filled with healthy Omega-3
fats available in wild caught salmon, chia, sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Clean Proteins

It is vital to eat proteins for the body to function. In order to build any muscle at all, even the smallest amount, the body needs protein. We believe that protein should be clean, unprocessed and organic. We love wild caught salmon, organic chicken, organic eggs and avocado. We turned to experts like Lisa Clayton, Lorna Jane and Matt Moran for delicious, protein-rich inspiration.
