Luminous is the one word that springs to mind for Willow’s Spring 2010 collection, which was inspired by Queensland’s picturesque Great Barrier Reef. Outfits adorned with mother-of-pearl buttons and metallic fabrics shimmered under the spotlight; having an almost mesmerising effect on the crowd.
Aussie brand Willow dived into their underwater theme with plenty of bold blues, sandy-coloured whites and neutrals. And, RESCU’s favourite, the mother-of-pearl suit that the media has been raving about – edgy, feminine and timeless.
There was something to suit everyone in this collection; flowing fabric or figure-hugging. Strapless, one-shouldered, or intricate look-at-me shoulder straps. Colours were diverse as well, with the rustic metallic orange, possibly of a beachside sunset, alongside an understated pebble-grey.
Structured 80s-style shoulders, cut-out designs and belts – both thin and thick – were also prominent; giving the outfits extra impact, ideal for those times when you need to dress to impress.
The hair was pulled back into a ponytail, which was sleek but not showy. The make-up, designed by Shiseido, was natural – barely-there – with bronzed skin to show off the eye-catching clothing to perfection.
