There’s another long weekend coming up, and although ANZAC Day is a more solemn occasion than Easter, it is still a time to get out and about, with Australians coming together for all manner of events. From dawn services to lighter festivities including 2-Up venues, holiday markets and more, we’ve rounded up the very best events for ANZAC Day 2014.
NSW
Head to the Pub
The Australian Heritage Hotel will play host to the city’s largest outdoor 2-Up arena this year, as well as food stalls and an all day BBQ. The pub has one of the best offerings this ANZAC day, with over 130 Aussie beers available and a specially designed menu (think kangaroo and emu).
Easy Tiger is one of Sydney’s most up and coming new bars, and they’re putting on something special this ANZAC day. The bar will be offering an alternative to the usual 2-Up and Tooheys with an East Side meets West Side party featuring live music and Young Henry’s Real Ale on tap all night.
Schweppes Stakes Day
The final day of the Sydney Autumn Carnival will take place on the ANZAC long weekend, and promises to be a day of indulgence and holiday frivolity. From the L’Oreal Professionnel hair styling salon for complimentary hair touch-ups and HairChalk, the Clinique lounge for makeupm Cryst Pizza, a DJ Battle and more, this is a must-attend day at the races.

The Bucket List
Head to the beach this ANZAC day without having to worry about the journey home. Bondi’s The Bucket List bar and eatery is teaming with Hyundai to offer you a safer long weekend and promote the Plan B and Safe Summer anti-drink driving initiatives. The Hyundai free shuttle will be providing patrons a service from the venue to five key locations between North Bondi and Bondi Junction.

Camp Gallipoli will be recognising ANZAC day with a respectful and informative sleep out at Caulfield Racecourse. Families will have the chance to camp out underneath the stars while watching documentaries, and crossing to a live feed of a specially chartered ship off Anzac cove.

ANZAC Day Services at the Australian War Memorial
Canberra’s ANZAC Day service is one of the nation’s most moving ceremonies. Thousands will gather in the pre-dawn light to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the first military action fought by Ausrtalian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Newstead’s Gasometer supplied natural gas to parts of Melbourne until 1996, and now the site is home to a shopping and entertainment precinct. The venue comes to life with a choreographed light and sound show that will be the perfect backdrop to your ANZAC evening celebrations.

Here’s To the Heroes
Stop by the Country Club Tasmania for a tribute to the ANZAC Spirit in music and song at 2.30pm on ANZAC day. The concert will feature songs and music from many fields of war which featured Australian servicemen and women, forming a moving tribute for ANZAC day 2014.

Mindil Beach Sunset Markets

Perth Anzac Day Dawn Service
The Perth dawn service will take place at the State War Memorial in Kings Park from 6am and promises to be a moving event. The service will include a showing of archival footage, which will play on eight large screens from 4.30am. This will be followed by the ANZAC Day Parade which begins at 9.30am, followed by the Memorial Service in Supreme Court Gardens at 11am.
