Ashley Olsen is the latest young Hollywood star to move away from their chosen profession, she joins the likes of Lily Allen and Adele who have announced their early retirements. Do you think they should get out while the going’s good or milk it for all they’re worth?
Ashley Olsen has been in show business with her twin sister Mary Kate ever since she was a little girl on Full House, and now she has announced she’s retired from acting.
“We (Ashley and Mary-Kate) worked until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school – and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things.”
There are few actors that make successful transitions into other professions, but Olsen twins seamlessly went from tween queens to fashion designers, launching multiple, popular clothing lines including The Row, Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye.
Although, Ashley claims the acting business isn’t out of the question, just being in front of the camera. We guess she’s leaving that to her talented, up-and-coming, younger sibling actress (and star of the recent Martha Marcy May Marlene) Elizabeth Olsen.
Ashley told Elle Magazine, “It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.” Rescu. wonders if Mary Kate and Ashley are ready to make their directorial debut?
The Olsen twin joins the likes of pop sensation, Adele, fresh from winning 6 awards at the Grammys. She said she would be taking a break for four or five years, “If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy. And then I don’t know what I’ll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch.”
British singer Lily Allen turned her back on the music industry because of frustration with laws that she says are too soft on piracy. The former singer, who had a string of hits including ‘The Fear’ wrote on her blog that she remains “a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade…The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t (at this point) stand to profit from legislation.”
