Australia Day is less than a week away and this year it happens to fall on a Saturday which means you’ve got two recovery days before you’re back at work so there’s no excuse not to celebrate!

When: 26 January 2013
What: Hyde Park will be transformed into a Summer Playground for the kids on Australia day. The newly formed Wiggles will be performing a free show, and there will be plenty to do including baking workshops and a petting farm.

When: 25 – 28 January 2013
What: Fifty different DJs and live acts, four venues, four days, and one iconic Australian view. Bungalow8 are hosting Oz Fest across King Street Wharf venues Cargo Bar, Cargo Lounge, Bungalow 8, and The Loft. With games like Beach Volleyball and a Thong Tossing Competition and a Nookie swimwear party, it’s guaranteed there won’t be a dull moment.

What: If beer and sausages aren’t your thing, head to The Winery on the public holiday afternoon for an Aussie wine and cheese festival. There will also be a wine tasting in the laneway and given that the Rosé Revolution is playing host, we’re expecting a great offering.

What: This family-friendly event will include fishing lessons from expert fishers at Harbour Esplanade, a Great Aussie Thong Throwing competition, a sausage sizzle, and plenty of roving entertainment.

What: The Wharf Hotel are hosting an Australia Day Triple J Hottest 100 Party complete with buckets of beer, jugs of cocktails and a barbeque on the garden deck on offer. Soak up the tunes, the sun, and celebrate all that is Aussie.

What: The Australia Day Festival at southbank will feature a variety of family-friendly events including a Beach Breakfast BBQ, Flag Raising Ceremony, storytelling, kid’s activities and fireworks over the Brisbane River to close.

What: Australia Day High Tea
The Shingle Inn is hosting an Australia Day High Tea complete with lamingtons, koala biscuits, and even vegemite sandwiches all in addition to their popular, established High Tea menu.

What: Brisbane’s favourite boutique beer bar will be blasting the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown and offering guests prizes and giveaways as well as, of course, serving up their premium beers.

What: The City of Perth Skyworks has a new home in Langley Park and this year the free entertainment zone will feature a water playground, pop-up beach resort, paintball, jumping castles, and lots more. At 8pm the famous Skyworks fireworks and laser show will be on. – it’s a must see!

What: Australia Day in the City is South Australia’s biggest Australia Day celebration and this year the event is set to be one of the best ever. Things kick off with the annual parade, then at 7pm in Elder park there will be a concert and fireworks to finish off the night.

When: 26 January 2013, 7am – 9am
What: If you’d prefer to spend your Australia Day getting fit, this family-friendly fun run walk is for you. It starts and ends at The Esplanade and entry is just a gold coin donation.

When: 26 January 2013, 12pm – 3pm
What: Celebrate Australia Day at the waterfront with a BBQ, outdoor bar, and the best seats in the house for the Point to Bridge Yacht Race at 1pm. There will also be gourmet food and wine picnic hampers to purchase so you can enjoy a picnic by the pier.
