Four lucky finalists have just come within a hair’s breadth of that opportunity.
Luck, however, didn’t get them there. Electrolux and Perry went in search of Australia’s next top designer – and the winner gets an apprenticeship in Perry’s atelier. Why Electrolux? The white goods maker wanted to promote evening wear that could be easily washed and machine dried, which isn’t common.
So the four designers – two from NSW and two from Victoria – impressed with their ability to use washable fabric and sensible design while still maintaining a high-fashion sensibility.
“When I meet with the finalists,” Perry said, “I will be looking for someone who can produce impressive evening wear designs, but also demonstrate a thoughtful selection of fabrics.”
Each finalist now has $500 to make their designs into reality, and see which one Perry likes best.
A wash-and-wear evening gown, no dry-cleaning necessary? Awesome idea – and green, too.

Milan Fashion Week Schedule In Crisis
If you haven’t been following the scheduling problem with Milan Fashion Week with bated breath, here’s a primer: it’s nasty.
Milan’s next Fashion Week schedule is set to overlap with both London AND New York.
Why? Because the organising body alleges that the agreement which set up who shows when has expired, and that they can do what they like, thank you.
The results have been explosive. Diane von Furstenberg, head of the CFDA, has tried to smooth things over, but nobody’s budging.
Conde Nast has threatened to boycott Milan, which was expected to resolve the problem, but no – the Milan Council will not budge.
If this doesn’t seem like a problem to you, consider the difficulties of being at the same place at the same time in ANY job, and then think of what would happen if they were cities apart, you were a fashion editor, and you had to pick between New York and Milan Fashion Week.
Not good, is it? Unfortunately it seems that the shows next year will be fraught and people will be even more short-tempered than usual.
Miranda Kerr Scores Coveted Bejewelled Angel Spot
Despite her baby only being a few months old, Miranda Kerr is back on top with a vengeance.
News comes this week that she’s been chosen to wear the most expensive bra at the Victoria’s Secret show next month.
The show-stopper will be worth $2.5 million, and is called the ‘Treasure Fantasy Bra’.
Last year’s was worn by Adriana Lima, but Kerr will model the diamond-and-gem-studded bra (which is guarded closely) for the cameras this year – the Show is televised and watched by millions.
The most expensive bra made by Victoria’s Secret was worn by Gisele Bundchen in 2000 – and was worth a cool $15m.
It is, perhaps, just a bit hard to breastfeed from.

Beyonce Is Designing A Maternity Line
Beyonce’s pregnancy has been attracting a storm of attention recently, most notably for the apparent evidence that her bump ‘folded over’ while she was being interviewed by Molly Meldrum, exposing it as a ‘fake’.
(This, by the way, has been explained as the folding of her dress as she sat down.)
The dress fiasco might have inspired Beyonce’s latest venture – she wants to make maternity clothes for her mother’s clothing line, House Of Dereon.
She wants to still feel ‘edgy and sexy’ while pregnant, but adds that ‘flowy fabrics’ are the best bet.
She also loves Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham and Ms Bundchen (of the $15m bra), and cites them as her style inspirations.
Fashion editors have had a field day with the idea, wondering if she’ll make maternity All The Single Ladies body-suits, but Rescu. is enjoying Beyonce’s pregnancy style thus far.
Now, if only she can get a dress that fits her properly when she sits down.
