If you have looked at yourself in an elevator mirror recently and it looks as if a flock of crows has left footprints around your eyes – don’t despair. No matter how old you look, it is never too late to start implementing procedures to halt the ageing process. Rescu. had several techniques you can practise daily that cost absolutely nothing:
1) Stay out of the sun
Nicole Kidman avoids it like a high-carb dinner. She and many celebrities know the damaging effects the sun has on the skin. Apart from increasing the risk of melanoma, the sun causes premature ageing. Whether at the beach, driving, or just out on a lunch break cover-up. Avoid the sun by wearing a hat and sunglasses. Wear sunscreen every day under your make-up.
Don’t forget about the rest of your body – wear long sleeves, trousers and a scarf when in direct sunlight. We can all spot the elderly swimmers who grew up in the surf by their dark leathery skin. Also, sport gloves while driving and gardening to prevent sunspots.
2) Retrain your face
Smile lines are also called character lines because they reveal something about your personality. Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham never smiles. Ever thought about why? What is worse than cheery creases? Frown lines. These do not just occur – they are carved into our face from repeatedly tensing particular muscles.
We often frown unconsciously during moments of concentration or deep thought. Become conscious of your facial expression during the day and remind yourself to relax your brow. Practise in front of the mirror so you know what a smooth forehead feels like.
3) In bed…
How many times have you woken up late and frantically tried to massage the deep crease lines out of one cheek as you hurry to work? If the answer is once or more, then you have put your skin under unnecessary stress during the night. Sleep on your back. Supermodels practice this technique and it works. You may not be able to control your movements throughout the night, but by falling asleep on your back, you will give your face a chance to relax.
Use one pillow instead of two. By sleeping with your head at a steep angle, you are causing multiple creases in the side of your neck, which is facing away from the pillows.
Also, don’t read in bed with the book resting on your stomach. You will be tilting your head forward to read and reinforcing chin and neck lines. Rather lie on your back and prop up the book with a pillow.
If you want to avoid elective surgery in the future and still maintain a youthful face and body, then being diligent in the above will make a positive difference.
