Starting with the little room that can cause the most grief – the bathroom – we’ve gathered some expert tips and tricks from interior stylist Deborah Hutton, to help you transform your home into a hot summer look for less.
RESCU: How can you keep your bathroom looking fresh?
Deborah Hutton: Splash out on brand new coordinating bath towels, hand towels and face washes – a clean and bright feel in the bathroom is a must. Make room in the cupboards and put away toothpastes and deodorants; we don’t want to see them.
RESCU: How can we make the bathroom feel alluring?
Deborah Hutton: Have on show some beautiful toiletries, fragrances, imported soaps – and for a finishing touch, a small pose of fresh flowers can make a huge difference. Especially if you have guests!
RESCU: What colours work best in the bathroom?
Deborah Hutton: A colour paint palette depends on the type of bathroom you have. If it’s new or renovated it’s usually white or off-white and that’s perfect, it’s clean and simple. If however you’re up for a reno or it’s an older bathroom, you can afford to choose a stronger colour and have some fun with it.
RESCU: How can you use colour to add personality?
Deborah Hutton: I love rich chocolates and taupes, especially with luxury stainless steel fittings and fresh white towels. Hang some of your framed artwork or photos on the wall for more interest. I’d avoid reds, yellows, oranges, pinks, anything that might make you feel ill after a late night…
RESCU: What are some simple (and affordable) tips to transform your bathroom into a sanctuary?
Deborah Hutton: If you have a shower curtain, replace with new ones at least twice a year… nothing worse than seeing mould! Install a dimmer, low lighting hides imperfection brilliantly. When having guests over, light a scented candle and turn the lights off.
