Jennifer Hawkins lead her army of beauties in Bendonlengerie.com show and we chat to Maybelline NY Australia’s makeup maestro, Nigel Stanislaus about the four key looks from the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Trends show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney.
By Anna McDougall
Nigel Stanislaus, Maybelline NY Australia’s makeup director, discussed the four vastly different makeup looks to suit every fashion trend from the long list of designers showing key pieces from their Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runway shows.
Taking inspiration from the opening song, ‘Princess of China’ by Rihanna and Coldplay, the first batch of models strutted out with a drenched wet-hair look and sported shimmering, dewy complexions to match.
Contouring on the cheeks was kept very gentle, to bring out the natural definition of the face and the lashes were fluffy and soft.
A bold fuschia lip accompanied the luminous skin. Nigel Stanislaus explained blotting the lip is best for achieving long wear lip colour, “when you blott it you remove the oils, and you leave the pigments behind, so the more you do it the more pink it is and longer it will stay on”.
The second look was for the sophisticated, high-end girl, think New York Upper East Side with bite! For dramatic black eyeliner, Nigel suggests using a piece of tape to determine the line you want and painting back along the lash line with gel eyeliner and a thick brush. Remove the tape for your sharpest line yet and customise your look with a batwing for that old-school Madonna feel.
The third look dubbed by Nigel as ‘the Artist’, a brilliant summer look for the playful, kooky, ecclectic girl with edge featured a powder blue eyeshadow with a juicy, tomato red lip. For that wet slicked look on the lids Nigel suggests to water down and mix and match with the Maybelline New York 24 Hour Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows. You can create your own pearly, iridescent colour in seconds. On the cheeks, mixed together were a dusty rose and peach to create the ultimate velvety summer look with “marshmellow finish”.
The fourth look for the ‘Angel section’ included a bit of DIY action with gold glitter obtained from Lincraft for a shimmering, reflective eyelid (that we could see sparkling even from the runway!). Topped off with a beautiful lashed with Maybelline NY’s Define A Lash top and bottom.
Nigel said the main makeup trend at Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival is, “dewy skin, almost juicy, with a really bright lip!” Nigel suggests something in coral or fuschia pink.
