Set during World War II, The White Pearl chronicles two forbidden love affairs and a family’s fight for survival. It has all the ingredients of a good story – romance, suspense and adventure. It would make a great Christmas gift and easy summer read.
The Plot: Malaya, 1941. As the wife of a plantation owner, Connie Hadley’s life appears pampered and comfortable. But she is hiding a secret that could destroy her marriage. After Japanese aircraft begin to attack her town, Connie decides to flee to Singapore on her boat, the White Pearl. She sails with her husband, her young son, three friends, two stowaways and an enigmatic boat dealer, Fitzpayne. The author, Kate Furnivall, said, “I am thrilled with the cover which says it all – the sweltering heat of Malaya, a young woman caught up in the danger of enemy airplanes and the passion of a love affair that changes the course of her life forever.”
Book Review: “Wonderful, a gripping love story … a hugely ambitious and atmospheric, epic novel.” – Kate Mosse (Author).
About the Author: Kate Furnivall is the British author of four previous novels, including The Russian Concubine, The Concubine’s Secret and The Jewel Of St Petersburg. Her novels are recommended for fans of Kate Morton (author of The Shifting Fog and The Distant Hours)
