Shopping for a bra that feels and fits perfectly is no easy feat.
In fact, 80 per cent of women today are wearing the wrong size bra!
So if you seem to be popping out of the sides of your bra or not filling the cups properly, it’s time to listen up.
Diana Wilson, the director of online lingerie store Boudoir Wishes, shares with Rescu. her top tips on shopping for the perfect bra.
TIP 1: Be aware of your body type
Being aware of your body type will help you know what bras to look for. For example, if you’re an “apple” (top heavy) shape, you should look for fuller coverage bras, not demi-cups. If you’re athletic with a smaller cup size, a push up plunge bra will add curves.
*Always remember that the bra size is just a number, the proper fit of the bra is more important than the size on your tag.
TIP 2: Check for back fat
If you have the dreaded back fat, you probably think your bra is too tight, but actually—your bra is too big.
Wearing the bra lower on your back with a smaller band size will completely eliminate the back fat.
TIP 3: Be open to trying on other bra sizes
If there’s a bra that you really love but they don’t have your size, it’s usually ok to go up a band size and down a cup size – or vice versa.
TIP 4: Check the bra cups are sitting correctly against your chest
If your cups dimple in, it means that your bra is too big and it’s time to go down a cup size.
TIP 5: Always opt for comfort
A bra should never hurt or feel uncomfortable, if it does; it means that it’s the wrong size.
TIP 6: Be aware bras aren’t made to last forever
Regular bras should to be replaced every six months to a year due to wear and tear.
TIP 7: Always alternate to keep your bras in top condition
Bras will last longer if washed after every wear; otherwise leave a day in between wearing the same bra, giving it time to regain its original shape and the fabric time to breathe.
