Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the earth’s most genetically blessed couple, tied the knot in a private ceremony on Saturday at Château Miraval, in Provence, in the south of France.
According to the Associated Press, Angelina Jolie, 39, and Brad Pitt, 50, obtained a marriage license in California from a local US judge who conducted the “non-denominational civil ceremony.”
Jolie’s eldest sons Maddox and Pax walked her down the aisle while her daughters Zahara and Vivienne threw petals and the younger siblings Shiloh and Knox were the ring bearers.
“It was very much a family affair,” their spokeswoman said in a statement.
Yesterday, Pitt was photographed wearing a gold band on his left ring finger during an event in Britain to promote his new World War II film Fury.
Together or not, the two have never been far from the tabloids with coupling falling in love on the set of the 2005 blockbuster Mr & Mrs Smith whilst Pitt was still married to Friends star and America’s sweetheart, Jennifer Aniston. The media was quick to dub Hollywood’s most famous couple, “Brangelina”.
Oscar-winning Jolie, the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Angelina made headlines when she took to the red carpet wearing a vial of Thornton’s blood around her neck in 2000. Jon Voight is said to have been unaware of the nuptials.
Jolie spoke of her husband and children to People in May: “We’ve been through so much, we’ve gotten a lot closer, which I think naturally happens with raising a family together. You have this person you live with who really knows you, and you know them so well. You’re not lovers or boyfriend and girlfriend as much as you are a family.”
Jolie wore an satin gown and a classic veil, which were both customized with drawings of the couple’s six children. Luigi Massi, the master tailor at Atelier Versace, sewed the drawings into the garments.
“Luigi is like family to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else making this dress,” Jolie told People. “He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together.
