In 1985, Jurlique began as a niche Australian brand, a pioneer in natural skincare science. Now in celebration of the brand’s 25th anniversary, we take a closer look at the brand’s founding, their biodynamic farm in South Australia, and most-popular products. We also road-test their signature one-hour Aromatherapy Facial.
How the brand began
This pioneering company was founded by Dr. Jurgen Klein and his wife, Ulrike – scientists in chemistry, herbology, homeopathy and alchemy. To begin their skincare range, they chose an unpolluted environment in South Australia where they would farm their own herbs and flowers. Jurlique’s mission was, and still is, to produce the purest, most effective skincare through nature, science and innovation.
Jurlique’s Biodynamic* farm
Biodynamic* farming is considered an advanced method of organic farming.
Jurlique operates over 153 acres in South Australia where more than 35 different varieties of plants and flowers are grown – including lavender, rose, marshmallow, licorice and calendula; ingredients that provide the biodynamic blends within Jurlique products.
The Jurlique skincare range 
Since 1985, Jurlique has grown to include hundreds of products, but the vision behind it remains the same. Each formula begins with a purely potent living energy blend extracted from biodynamic herbs and botanicals from their farm.
Three Hero products
1. Rose Hand Cream (40ml, $27.00) contains rose, calendula and viola to moisturise and protect your hands. It smells delicious too. Jurlique also has hand creams with lavender and jasmine scents
2. Herbal Recovery Gel (30ml, $70, pictured at the top of the article) was formulated in 1994 and is one of Jurlique’s most enduring formulas. It’s a botanical concentrate, infused with a blend of herbs and plant oils designed to help hydrate and revitalise the skin. It’s rich in antioxidants to help your skin look more youthful.
3. Signature aromatherapy Facial
This cleansing and relaxing facial is personalised to suit your skin’s individual rebalancing needs. It’s designed to uplift your senses and restore balance to your mind and skin.
Rescu. Road-Test:
I was lucky enough to road-test the 1-hour aromatherapy facial at the Bondi Junction store/day spa in Sydney. Before my facial started, I was asked about what type of skin I had (combination skin), and my current skin concerns (anti-ageing, puffy eyes).
My facial was conducted on a heated therapy bed, (which made me feel warm and content even before the facial started). All the products that were massaged into my skin smelt beautiful and were relaxing, especially the Lavender Balancing Mist (30ml, $23.00). And I was delighted when the Herbal Recovery Eye Cream ($52.00) took the puffiness away from my sleep deprived eyes.
The facial also included a head and shoulder massage, which was very soothing. And at the end, the therapist applied the hand cream of my choice (I chose rose, but was tempted by lavender).
