Spring is here and that means one thing… Wedding season!
Bridal beauty is such a big part of the special day and trends have become much more fashion based than traditional wedding beauty we used to see.
Gone are the days of the bouncy up-do and pink shimmer cheeks as now we are seeing relaxed, textured hair mixed with contouring and lashes – It’s red carpet glam or textured fashion and, I love it!
I feel that wedding beauty is now ones own style, not so ‘I’m getting married; I better do what a bride is supposed to do, look like a bride.’
Have individuality with your look… A wedding day is your big day, so the style you have normally should be that, but obviously upgraded to wedding standards and fitting the overall feel of your day.
A groom doesn’t want to turn around and see a completely different person walking down aisle…
Here are some of my favorite beauty styles for brides….

I love the modern elegance of this look. The hair loosely pulled back gives it softness, yet with the angle of the eye makeup being so lifting, it gives such lift and stature. It’s all about the youthful lift!
MB PRO TP;
To create lift to your eye look, place a pencil or brush from end of nostril diagonally up to end of brow… That is your finish line of eye shadow for a continued lift.

The use of a soft braid into ones modern up do, is a way to always guarantee a sense of femininity and also creates an interesting texture that photographs well – A twist on a classic look.
Strobing is a big makeup technique at the moment and all it really is highlighting more than shading – So contouring, with more light used and I love it.
We went through a phase of shading so much we were starting to look a little muddy and the shading, while yes it can create a hollow under a bone area to accentuate and lift, it can also take over your look, not looking as fresh as originally planned.
MB PRO TIP:
Start your contouring routine with light by adding highlight to the frontal areas of the face – cheekbones, brow bone, centre of the face, cupids bow of lip – and instantly you will look lifted, fresh and youthful… This means less shading is required.

Hair up has been a part of weddings for years, originally so your dress was the only feature there could be… I get that, but beauty has become so much more.
If you do decide for hair up, I like the idea of it not so slick as it can be a little severe.
Try a softer approach with a real good blow dry, then pin back loosely so it looks a little done, but undone – Much more modern and fresh.
Blush is something that can lift your face instantly and it is different to a contour.
A contour is typically a bronzer or taupe tone used under the cheekbone to give shape and lift as it creates a hollow… Blush is for the apple of the cheek only and plumps the front part of the cheek, giving immediate lift and fullness – so anti-ageing!
MB PRO TIP:
If you are unsure of a blush shade, use more of a peachy shade as it matches all skin tones more than a pink… (Pink can bring out unwanted redness to the skin)

You know, I actually love this hair; I think it’s a lot of fun and could look great on the right bride…. A very simple slim fitting dress, could need some big hair to balance it out, but do not have big hair when your dress is already big as its too much and will lose balance.
What I do love love love, is the liquid eyeliner… It immediately takes you to the eyes and I feel if you are a minimalist with eye shadow and find the smokey look doesn’t suit you, try a liquid eyeliner as it gives such great definition to your lash line and creates flirty elegance, so 60’s!
MB PRO TIP;
To get your liquid eyeliner outer wing perfect, place some sticky tape, as close to your outer edge of your eye, on the diagonal you want the wing. Once you apply it, if you get a bit shakey, it will only go onto the sticky tape ad once removed, leave you with a perfectly clean line.

One of my favourite red carpet/bridal hair do’s… It works every time, bringing a touch of glamour to the occasion. Once sectioned, then curled, brush out the curls so it forms a volumous side wave. Curls must be brushed out for it to be as one, not too many sectioned curl pieces.
If you are going to wear a bold lip, it is a commitment, but it can be great for photos… Don’t get your makeup artist to just paint it on with a brush as it will only sit on top of the lip and be very easy to transfer away.
MB PRO TIP:
Apply lipstick on prepped lips with your fingertip, dabbing and pressing colour to stain and bond to the lip. Once shape is done, use a lip liner to sharpen lip line. This way makes sure lipstick is pressed into the lip, not sitting on top.

Every bride needs a lash… It just makes such a difference to your look and can e a great way to upgrade the look from what your everyday makeup look is. Team with sleek hair and a softer lip and wow, you got the focus!
It is important to get a pair that is not too crazy, look for full and fluffy, rather than angled shapes, or gap looking lashes.
Strip lashes are much easier to apply if you are applying your own lashes… But they still must be trimmed to size and length of your lash line.
I prefer individuals for a bride as they are much more natural and less obvious you are wearing them…
MB PRO TIP:
I love layering individuals from longer flares on the outer edge, then slightly smaller on the middle to inner. This creates a mini wing to your eye and looks great in photos as it defines your eye perfectly.

This is the shorter version of the glam Hollywood side hair – I love it.
Just need to make sure you do brush out the curls once tonged, otherwise you’ll have a very bits and pieces look, which is not Hollywood.
A smokey eye is definitely acceptable on your wedding day, but it is how it is done that matters…. If your skin is highlighted and fresh, lip is more nude than bold and your hair and dress is quite simple, then go for it.
MB PRO TIP:
Gone are the days of the black smokey eye… Now they are layers of brown, bronze and sometimes some granite around the lash line… Make sure your smoky is modern and shaped perfectly to your area – go higher if you have a lot of eye space, draw it outwards if you do not.

This look I love for its naturalness… Not every bride wants to wear a lot of makeup and could be more free spirited, but still wants to feel like a bride.
Texture hair has been huge the past few seasons, so adding some dry shampoo for volume and dry wax is perfect for this look… Add in a braid and you have wedding right there.
Makeup doesn’t need to look visible…
Fresh skin is all about the use of light, by highlighting.
Define your lashes, fill In the brows for lift and face framing and then add some sheer lipstick and you are good to go.
It’s all about individuality and owning your own style on your wedding day, don’t fall into a typical wedding beauty trap. Enjoy it and feel good about it.
