If Wedded Wonderland could hand pick gowns for the ultimate wedding, first stop would be the iconic red carpet of the Academy Awards. It’s no secret that red carpet couture has always had a profound effect on bridal fashion and of course, how brides choose to dress their maids!

This year, bridal inspiration from the Oscars was flowing like Moet and we’re certain girls everywhere where busy making sketches and taking screen shots. This year’s Oscar looks made perfect inspiration for brides who are want to dress in traditional white or ivory, but may be looking for a contemporary approach to shape and design. #weddingdressgoals
If we didn’t notice it enough on bridesmaids last year, then you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll be seeing red a whole lot more in 2015. The top three red looks of the night took us from strapless, to one shoulder, through to high neck and sleeved making this daring colour that much more achievable for varied body shapes and sizes.
Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Jonson wore a timeless red gown by Saint Laurent, boasting clean lines, finished with a stunning silver beaded shoulder piece. Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike brought old school Hollywood glam back to life in Givenchy. But Giuliana Rancic stole the show in her second gown of the evening by Mireille Dagher. With a net base bodice and heavy lacy applique, short sleeves with a just the right amount of flow at the base – everything about this gown has bridal appeal, from bridesmaids to the bride.
The crowds made way for chic, classic, white gowns that had discerning brides everywhere swooning. Guiliana Rancic kicked the evening off in Australian designer favourite, Steven Khalil. This exquisite gown echoed everything that we love about Steven’s work; layers of lace, the perfect shape and sheer in all the right places.
Chrissy Teigan took a saucier approach to ‘something blue’ in Zuhair Murad. With a low cut top wrapped in silvery tones, and a high split that made way for a glimpse of her perfect pins, the detail in this case was all about sexy. In a more modest approach, Jenna Dewan also dressed by Zuhair Murad, wore a similar shape to Chrissy Teigan, minus the sleeves and high split making the look ultra customisable.
For the petite frame, heavy beads and texture always goes a long way. Lupita Nyong graced the red carpet in a white Calvin Klein gown, adorned with pearls that gathered into a heavy halter.
For a moment in time, the red carpet was awash in a sea of blushing pinks and understated nudes. Show stoppers included Gwyneth Paltrow in a delicate pink Ralph & Russo gown with a single shoulder embellished with a large ruffled rose. Karolina Kurkova went for a classic shape with a vertical peplum on the back that flowed down to a petite train by Marchesa.
Blush tones were winner on Hollywood’s seasoned red carpet queens, too. Oprah needed no introduction wearing an exceptional gown, the perfect shape for curvy women. Our pick of the bare and blushing bunch was definitely red carpet queen Jennifer Lopez, dressed by the iconic Elie Saab. JLo glistened in a classic ball gown with a tapered waist and full skirt, making this number the most translatable look on the red carpet this year, taking it from the red carpet to the aisle with glamorous ease!
Now we could discuss the red carpet fails, but Wedded Wonderland is here to inspire – and thankfully this year the designers and stars went above and beyond!
