Carine Roitfeld’s ‘CR Fashion Book’ will be a unique publication and nothing like Vogue and Stefano Pilati is the front-runner for Armani’s top job when the legendary designer retires.
The former French Vogue editor – who was at the helm of the respected fashion publication for over 10 years – is set to launch her own publication, ‘CR Fashion Book’, which promises to be ”something different” to what is already on the market.
Carine told WWD, ”The name’s not a big surprise, but oh well. [It is a] celebration of fashion and creativity.
”Vogue is a very beautiful magazine, an institution, and I learned so much working there. You can’t put yourself into competition with a magazine like Vogue; you have to create something new, something different.”
The magazine will be produced in New York and over half of its 50,000 copies will be distributed in Europe – priced around £6 – with the remainder in the US and Asia.
The quarterly publication will also have an online presence focusing on art, culture and fashion and not otherwise present in the print version.
Carine said, ”It’s like a new baby.”
Carine has previously admitted she had planned an internet venture, but felt it would take up too much of her time.
The fashion force has said, ”Initially I wanted it on the internet, but it’s a lot of investment, a lot of time, I do not know if it suits me.
”I know that now you have to work with the internet and the photos are of very good quality on the iPad, but things quickly go out of style on the internet. We’ll start with print: a September issue next fall in English.”
Rumours suggesting the former YSL creative director was to go to the fashion house initially emerged last year and although they were quickly denied, a fashion journalist has heard it may come to fruition when the 77-year-old sartorlialist retires in the future.
Former Fashion News Daily writer Jim Shi tweeted, ”My sources are telling Stefano Pilati is headed to Giorgio Armani with the intention to assume full creative reigns when GA retires.”
Stefano is not the only star to have been linked to the role – Narciso Rodriguez is also thought to be a possibility for the job.
Stefano previously admitted he had no regrets about leaving Yvest Saint Laurent earlier this year to be replaced by Hedi Slimane.
He said, ”I am really good. I am really happy, which is something very unusual for me in a sense that I never believed that it could have been possible to feel happy, at least under these kinds of circumstances.
”It’s pretty beautiful what happened to me. I found myself working and being supported and encouraged by amazing people I always admired and still admire. I found myself at the end of this chapter and don’t regret one minute.”
