Fashion Week Australia has begun, and who better to kick off the runway proceedings than the incomparable Carla Zampatti. Jaw dropping gowns in contrasting vibrant hues and monochrome were the order of the day, but we know fashion isn’t fashion without hair and makeup, and the beauty look from the Carla Zampatti Fashion Week show was every bit as spectacular as the designs.
With ‘light’ as the inspiration point for the runway hair look, a sleek, wet look style was the perfect choice. Darren Borthwick collaborated with Redken to create the ultra modern look, which took wet hair to the max.
‘We were going for shiny, shiny, shiny,’ said Borthwick, and with light reflecting vibrantly off the models hair as they strutted the runway, it seems the stylist got exactly what he wanted.
For makeup, a contrasting simplicity was the order of the day. Maybelline’s Nigel Stanislaus designed a look that played with texture to create a sculpted and contemporary face.
A nude palette was contrasted with hard black liner striped under the eye. Under eye liner has been a growing trend for runway beauty and is likely to appear in more shows during the week. Cheeks were contoured and highlighted with a highly powdered and mattified finish to the complexion.
‘The look is all about modern,’ said Stanislaus. ‘We’re going modern, we’re going minimal and we’re going industrial. We’re bringing out the beautiful natural bone structure of the girls.’
Backstage Makeup Tip: The high shine cheek bones on parade at Carla Zampatti were created using lip balm. Just take a lip balm, such as Maybelline’s Baby Lips Lip Balm ($3.95), and dap your makeup brush onto it, softening the balm slightly. Then, swipe across your upper cheek bone to create the ultimate high shine highlights.
