After Barack Obama’s historic announcement supporting equal rites for same-sex marriage, celebrities from Ellen DeGeneres to Kim Kardashian and Neil Patrick Harris took to the Twittersphere to thank and praise the President.
As the Twittersphere is now the go to hub for breaking news, it was little wonder celebrity tweeters took to the social media forum to state their opinions after Barack Obama told ABC’s Robin Roberts “I do” when it comes to his support for same-sex marriage.
Obama is the first president to openly voice his support for gay marriage, and it’s about time!
“I’ve always been adamant that gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly,” he said.
Ellen Degeneres, Kim Kardashian, Jane Lynch, Neil Patrick Harris and Eliza Dushku all took to Twitter to share pride in their president, who in the sit-down interview explained why he supports gay marriage.
“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or Marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”
