Celebrities are so often admired for a varied range of things: fame, fabulous wardrobes, amazing careers, wealth, and most of all, what they eat and how they look so darn good all the time. I’m here to give you the low down on my five healthiest celebrity diets and share their exercise secrets:
Cameron Diaz:
The thing I love about Cam is her overall attitude to exercise. She has always eaten everything and participated in lots of outdoor sports with paddle boarding & surfing as some of her faves. She’s also adding lifting heavy weights to her new regime. This has seen a shift in her appearance and also her diet. She’s had to tighten her diet up by staying away from fried food and eating regularly. It’s paying off; she’s sporting some serious guns.
Miranda Kerr:
As the new mum strutted her way down the catwalk recently, we mere mortals curled into a ball and rocked slowly back and forth whilst wailing. She looked amazing, that’s for sure. However the divine Ms Kerr is an advocate of healthy, clean eating. Let’s also not forget her job! She is a model after all; she gets paid to look awesome. Miranda recently commented about her new shape “I’m embracing my new boobs and my new curves”. You go girl! I’m yet to see the “curves” but hey she looks fabulous. Miranda chooses organic foods, loves yoga and recommends breastfeeding.
Gwyneth Paltrow:
Having released a cookbook, Gwyneth loves to eat and also cook. Once famed for following a strict Macrobiotic diet, she hasn’t been Macrobiotic for 7 years but still admits to following several of its key principles. Her diet includes lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. When she is in need of a spring clean, Gwyneth follows Dr Jungar’s detox principles. The detox consists of: veg/fruit, rice milk, nuts/seeds. (I love and recommend Lucky You Cleanse. It’s available in Sydney- www.luckyyoucleanse.com.au) She also consults with PT Tracy Anderson. Her workouts vary from dancing, weights and yoga/pilates. The busy mum seems to have relaxed on her restrictive diet and fitness routine whilst still maintaining her lean figure. It just goes to show that you can have your cake and eat it too.
Blake Lively:
The Green Lantern star had to be very disciplined with this role. She followed a diet, devised by her trainer that was high in protein and consisted also of whole grains like brown rice and sweet potatoes. Breakfast was porridge (whole rolled oats) with flaxseeds. She also was recommended to ditch alcohol. Blake understands it’s important to nourish your body, especially when you have a crazy work schedule.
Jennifer Aniston:
Jen eats very clean (no processed food). Fresh fish, lean meats and lots of colourful veggies. “Just don’t eat sh**” was her response when quizzed about how she looks so great. Jen doesn’t deprive herself; if she wants a wine she has it, same with coffee. Her main form of exercise is yoga (4-5 hours/week). She also incorporates cardio based exercises like spinning and cross trainer. She shares Gywinnies trainer, Tracy Anderson.
Whilst 5 training sessions per week and a personal chef may be out of your reach, you can still adopt these celebs ways of eating and reap the benefits too:
Natalie Carter’s tips for eating and training like a celeb:
1. Choose small lean protein serves (visit my blog www.nataliecartertalksfitness.com for healthy, easy to follow recipes. Best of all, you don’t have to be a Chef to cook them!)
2. Enjoy small amounts of whole grain carbohydrate with each meal. Try quinoa, brown rice or sweet potatoes.
3. Don’t eat processed junk food. Try to consume less bread.
4. Consume truckloads of water (1-2L/day).
5. Ditch Alcohol. If you must drink, go for soda water & wine (spritzers) or lighter cocktails (white spirits with soda mixers and fresh fruit). Beer guts are “so” unattractive. There are a lot of empty calories in alcohol so you must factor this in to your daily allowance (red wine has approx 120 cals per 150 ml and a 375ml beer has approx 150 cals.)
6. Schedule your training sessions in your diary. Make no excuses. These celebs take their training serious and so should you. Mindless training is so boring not to mention ineffective. Hire a PT if necessary, to provide motivation and show you the most effective exercises.
7. Don’t be afraid of adding resistance (weights) exercise. Try pull ups, squats, dips, shoulder presses & mountain climbers.
8. Find what motivates you to do your workouts. Maybe it’s that slinky dress hanging in your wardrobe or that hot bikini you’ve been lusting after. Hang up the item of clothing so you can see it (not tucked away) each morning and this reminds you of a workout and to eat healthy.
9. In the kitchen- have a big bowl of fruit on display for you to grab a quick snack on your way out the door. If you surround yourself with fresh produce, it’s hard not to resist it. If you have junk and processed food in your cupboards, put it in the bin and stop wasting your money on foods that lead you further away from a healthy life.
