From totes to coats, scarves to shirts, some celebrity trans seasonal fashion and style switch-ups are worth their weight in gold, without the need to invest time, money or fuss.
The Denim: Denim is the essential off-duty wardrobe staple that always proves bang on-trend. From distressed, faded jeans cuffed at the ankle, through to lineal dark flared styles, celebrities from Miranda Kerr to Sarah-Jessica Parker pair their denim back with t-shirts for a relaxed vibe through to tailored jackets for a more urban appeal. And it’s not all blues – white and grey denim are great washes to transcend seasons if a traditional wash isn’t your thing.
The Kicks: The autumnal answer to the ballet flat, high-top trainers and simple slip on sneakers are always a hot celebrity favourite for these on-the-go gals. A bold, bedazzled, elevated-sole style is always a favourite for the more flamboyant – think Gwen Stefani in her Tory Birches’ – but lovers of the classic white converse include the ever-chic Diane Kruger and Rosie Huntington-Whitely. And who could go past Gigi Hadid rocking her favourite Adidas trainers with a mini at the Met after-party?
The Leather Jacket: There is no ensemble the LBJ (little black jacket) doesn’t like. From floaty, floral dresses to slimline pants and a white shirt, the leather jacket has come a long way since Fonzie’s day! Bella Thorne and Vanessa Hudgens are huge fans of this edgy accessory, and although it is a staple piece, the options in embellishment are endless with studs and fringing proving so hot right now. The best bit? The older the better when it comes to leather. Revisit your worn old jacket from last decade and if anything, get some heavy duty tailoring done to create more of a modern silhouette if needed.
The Scarf: Around and around and around once more. There is no rule when it comes to weaving and winding your fashion flair with a scarf. Heidi Klum and Jennifer Aniston are rarely without theirs – in print, stripes, monochrome, pastels, plaids or pretty floral – but rest assured, the fabric is everything when it comes to a Tran seasonal scarf, so invest in silks, cotton or merino wools so that the quality is always there and you get many seasons – and years – worth of wear.
The Coat: The coat is a key accessory this season as it can be thrown over the most lightweight outfit when you are on the hop. But the difference in 2015, is the coat / trench hybrid whereby the long line, single breasted (generally sans button) style is proving popular in a tan tone traditionally reserved for the trench coat. Other sorbet hues include mint greens (Jessica Alba) and musk pinks. The rule here is to keep the tone of anything underneath you work it back with light and crisp also (think white, faded denim, more white, more faded denim), so the coat is not washed out by competing colours.
The Belt: Big belts are coming into their own this autumn and winter, pulling focus mid-waist cinched around scarves (slung over the shoulders with the lengths belted at the waist) and over big, bulky coats. Olivia Palermo and Cate Blanchet absolutely kill this look every time, with the latter beauty playing up the latest ‘Karate’ belt trend with a simple knotted Armani version. But whether it’s buckled or tied, leather or silk (scarves offer a fantastic take on this trend) be careful here if you are curvy. If this is the case, a voluminous coat will only add bulk, so belt a white shirt over a slimline jean or linen dress as an alternative.
The Hat: Vanessa Hudgens and Suki Waterhouse are two of the highest profile hat wearers bring the fedora back with vengeance. And thank God for that, because a wide-brimmed felt hat – in grey, black, navy, marle or chocolate – is the very smartest option for a bad hair day. Or a hangover, for that matter. Let your hat be the statement though, and pair it back with a lo-fi outfit, like worn jeans, trainers, a crisp white t-shirt and a leather jacket or long wool coat or cardigan. If you try and dress up a hat too much, it can look a little staged and too far removed from the authenticity of this boho-inspired accessory.
The Tote: The winter tote is a scene-stealer in itself and the perfect seasonal segue when it comes to accessories. In summer, you tend to keep fashion light and free, but in winter, hardier fabrics and generous layers are perfectly complimented with a more serious bag. The tote is just that. But you don’t have to go to dark to nail this trend, as many celebrities – including Miranda Kerr and Rose Byrne – prefer to throw their many daily necessities into a lighter leather version in tan, teal, cream, cerulean blue and blush tones.
The White Shirt: What the LBD is for night, the CWS (chic white shirt) is for day, and it proves a breezy step up from the summer an spring t-shirt or shell top. A universal uniform for off-duty, on-the-hop ease (think Kate Hudson) through to full business mode on the likes of Ms Beckham, the options are endless with the chic white shirt. You can keep it entirely androgynous with a button-up style or create a feminine whimsy with a bow collar version. Whichever you choose, stick with a structured outfit – either denim jeans, pencil skirts or tailored pants – and if you are going for a black pant, freshen the style with a sexy stiletto or funky flat to take it from ‘office-ho hum’ to ‘on-the-street hot.’
