A psycho, a nympho and a tool—if you’ve managed to survive your travails in the working world without having encountered at least one of these Horrible Bosses, I think you might be the exception rather than the rule. With most of us feeling at least a little bit of GFC pressure to keep our jobs, perhaps the best way toexact our revenge is to laugh collectively and vicariously at their hilarious movie caricatures, as brilliantly depicted throughout this film.
The story: three average guys who otherwise enjoy their jobs, become tired of being at the mercy of their management. Having been pushed to their limits, they devise a plan to have them removed from office, permanently. Having met with a local hit man—which doesn’t work out—the terrific trio decide that the most economically rational and safest means of committing the crime is to each kill another’s boss. But when these inexperienced murderers set out on their tasks, it all goes horribly and hilariously wrong.
The combination of Jason Bateman, Jason Suidekis and Charlie Day is bound to excite comedy palates everywhere, and deservingly so. Their bosses are equally fabulous, with Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell in these key roles, each portraying an exaggerated, yet extremely funny, boss to be despised. Aniston especially has rarely been as wickedly sexy as she is in this film.
Horrible Bosses is funny, naughty, and simply the perfect way to exact voyeuristic revenge, without threatening your pay check. We spoke to the three male leads at the Sydney Premiere about what it was like to be part of this crazy movie:
RESCU: What was it like to have Jennifer Aniston as your nympho boss?
Charlie Day: It was fantastic! Are you kidding? No, I’m a married man and I could understand that if that was a real situation, it would be pretty awful (laughs).
RESCU: Of the two Jasons, who do you think is funnier?
Charlie Day: Oh, that’s tough. Sudeikis is pretty hilarious all of the time, but Bateman, he’ll kill you with a single line.
RESCU: Do you think bosses should be afraid of this film?
Jason Bateman: Maybe, if they’re bad bosses. But, the film does remind you that it’s illegal to kill people (smiles). If you’re a good boss you won’t have to worry.
RESCU: Did you take on this project as a form of boss revenge?
Jason Sudeikis: (laughs) No, maybe I did. It could be seen as that but I didn’t write the script. I really think it’s just a fun movie, which sends a good message to bad bosses.
RESCU: What was your highlight of the movie?
Jason Sudeikis: That would have to be getting to work with Kevin Spacey. American Beauty is one of my favourite films of all time, so that was just a huge thrill.
