Chris Brown has come under fire for his latest tattoo that looks disturbingly similar to ex-girlfriend Rihanna’s bruised face after he physically assaulted her back in 2009.
The new tattoo, positioned on the rapper’s neck, appears to be the face of woman with a black eye and stiches on her lip; and mirrors closely the damage he caused the famous songstress.
Brown has received a flood of twitter backlash for the ink design but denies it has anything to do with Rihanna.
Sources close to Brown initially said on TMZ that any similarities between his tattoo and Rihanna are coincidental and that the face is that of a “random woman”.
Brown’s publicist then cleared the air further by releasing a statement that the design is by no means the image of an abused woman at all but rather a Dia De los Muertos Skull, associated with the Mexican celebration The Day of the Dead.
Brown and Rihanna split three years ago after the assault but have since reconciled and remained friends.
Reports that the pair are getting back together have intensified since they were photographed kissing at last week’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Rihanna told Oprah Winfrey in a televised interview last month that she is still close to Brown and even admitted, “I think he is the love of my life”.
Earlier this week the songstress uploaded on instagram this topless picture of her own new tattoo positioned under her breasts. The design is a winged Egyptian Goddess, which she dedicated to her late grandmother.
