Claudia Schiffer’s new collection has been inspired by Jane Birkin. Find out why the super model takes note from the English actress and Claudia explains why her knits are wearable even in the summer-time!
Claudia Schiffer’s latest collection has been inspired by Jane Birkin. The supermodel launched her cashmere label in March last year and revealed she imagined what the English actress and singer would wear when she was creating her designs.
She told vogue.co.uk, “I looked to Jane Birkin pictures from the 1960s as a starting point. I thought about what she would wear in different locations around the world – Paris, Ibiza and London – and how I would interpret that for myself. “I think about styles that can transcend seasons and are investment pieces rather than the next It-trend. The boyfriend sweater dress or cape dress are good examples of this, in neutral tones; they can be worn from season to season and updated with of the moment accessories.”
Although knitwear isn’t usually a choice for summer, Claudia explained it actually allows skin room to breathe. She said, “I chose a finer weight cashmere knitted in a lighter gauge for the summer collection. It’s very soft and not too warm to wear, as cashmere allows your skin to breathe. I also played with styles that hang from the body, to allow movement and comfort in the warmer weather.”
