Daphne Guinness’ enviable fashion collection, including classic Alexander McQueen pieces, is about to be auctioned off in the UK and Kate Moss’ 9-year-old daughter Lila Grace stages her own photoshoots.
The British heiress’ Alexander McQueen possessions are expected to go for their maximum valuation at auction in the UK.
Daphne’s extensive collection will go under the hammer on the evening of 27th June (UK time) at Christie’s auction house.
Curator Pat Frost predicts the McQueen items will pull in hard core fashion folk.
Pat said, “The dresses and shoes offered here are classic McQueen, so will already appeal to collectors and to fashionistas.
“McQueen and Daphne formed an electrical circuit of inspiration and creation – their friendship is such a part of the story that pieces created especially for Daphne, like the silver dress, lot 41, are more than the sum of their parts.”
All proceeds from the auction – which was the brainchild of Daphne and Julia Delves Broughton, the sister of Isabella Blow, an English magazine editor and the muse of hat designer Philip Treacy – will go to the Isabella Blow Foundation, a new charity set up by the heiress to help support young art and fashion talent.
Highlights of the sale – comprising 100 items – include an Alexander McQueen bell-shaped dress, a black Chanel mini gown and a Christian Lacroix floor-length dress, as well as photographs of the late star taken by Mario Testino and Bryan Adams.
Pat added to vogue.co.uk, “It has been fun right from the start. We have been so pleased to work with Daphne and her team. Not only was that a pleasure, but, as fashion historians, we have had the added bonus of cataloguing some truly iconic fashion moments.
“Personally, I’m particularly pleased with the interplay of the worlds of art and fashion that these dresses have inspired. Fashion is a contemporary art form, in my opinion, so I am very happy when the wider world seems to share this opinion.”
The British supermodel’s offspring Lila Grace – whose father is Jefferson Hack – and her friend Iris Law, 11, love working together on their own photoshoots.
Iris – whose parents are Sadie Frost and Jude Law – told aMUSE, “My god-sister, Lila, and I have gotten into the habit of creating little photo shoots every time we see each other. I enjoy this, because it’s everything I love in one go; it’s creative, it makes you think- it’s fashion.”
Kate could have planted the seed for the budding fashionistas back in 2009 when Kate threw Iris a model-themed ninth birthday party for her.
A source said at the time, “Kate had been teaching Iris and Lila Grace how to model and how to walk the catwalk properly in preparation for the party.
“They could hardly have a better teacher.
“All of the girls at the bash wanted to be Kate. She brought along lots of clothes for them and the girls had their hair and make-up done especially.
“Kate also presided over all of the accessories to make them look as catwalk-ready as possible. She was teaching them how to master her famous hip swagger and her ‘I don’t care look’.
“It went down so well that Iris and Lila Grace now both want to be models like Kate.”
We wouldn’t be surprised if Lila Grace became a mini-model – fashion is in her DNA!
