David Jones 175th Anniversary Gala
Illustrious Australian department store David Jones celebrated it’s 175th anniversary this week with a majestic gala at the iconic Elizabeth Street store. The black tie event commemorated David Jones’ heritage as one of the oldest department stores in the world, as well as the unique place it has in the history and hearts of Australians.
David Jones ambassadors Megan Gale, Jessica Gomes, Jason Dundas, Montana Cox, Gai Waterhouse and Emma Freedman were in attendance, as were notable Australian models Samantha Harris and Cheyenne Tozzi, as well as members of the David Jones designer family including Collette Dinnigan, Kit Willow, Carla Zampatti, Dion Lee and Josh Goot.
The night comprised of an exhibition comprising of over one hundred images and seventy-five artefacts tracking the history of the prestigious retail brand, followed by several canapé, cheese and desert courses, a culinary journey that moved from traditional fare to avante garde modernity. With entertainment that combined contemporary and classical music, every element of the event spoke to the department store’s proud heritage along with a desire to innovate for the future.

Winter Trend: Modern Animal Print
From the runways of Paris and New York, to department store diffusion ranges, a new trend is emerging. It is the ‘modern animal print’ and it takes the classic prints of the past and reimagines them for the new season. The look goes both ways.
Take note of the soft tones and girly accents of the Burberry Prosum Fall ’13 Ready-To-Wear collection and tone the look down with prints that miaow rather than roar. Alternatively, step into the jungle with ultra-bright re-workings of traditional colour schemes as Kenzo did in their Spring Ready-To-Wear ’13 collection. Closer to home, Leona byLeona Edmiston and Hi There by Karen Walker have brought the modern animal print to the street and the cocktail party;
