SPRING/SUMMER COVERAGE: By Tali Shine
Nearly a decade ago, an iconic photo shoot of Cindy Crawford surrounded by Bedouin tribes in the desert appeared in Vanity Fair. It captured our imagination and inspired us to dream of trips to the Middle East and stock up on khaki shirts, cargo pants, beige shorts and simple white singlet tops. We never forgot those images, and it seems like MaxMara didn’t either, with their Spring 2010 collection taking on a distinctly desert theme.
This desert theme involves military enhanced tailoring, like applets on shirts and trench coats over shorts, as well as the use of colours that reflect the desert and its sunset; think burnt orange skirts, beige, sand and khaki trousers, crisp white dresses and dusty trenches.
The use of fluid fabrics, like matte silk charmeuse, created a laid back feel, with shirts opened low, pleated trousers skimming the floor, satin full length trench coats flowing effortlessly in the breeze and double breasted dresses chicly draped across the body.
Whether or not you are going into battle or breezing through life, you are sure to look effortlessly chic in either the city or the desert with this collection.
