Inspired by the celluloid forties and the era when Bacall and Bogart ruled the silver screen, models appeared with Bacall-esque coiffed long hair, red velvet lips, fresh glowing skin and lovely eye colours, courtesy of make-up supremo Pat McGrath. It was not however the dramatic staging, or the hair and make-up, but rather the clothes – Galliano’s way of “making the 40s glamour more contemporary” – that stole the show.
Fashionistas gasped in delight as breath-taking vibrant chiffon gowns in red, peach, violet, fuchsia and black dreamily floated down the catwalk.Tiny beads and sequins, hand sewn throughout the gowns created a glittering and magical effect as the models moved, whilst delicate peek-a-boo lingerie, as well as structured corsetry in black and nudes were seductively visible underneath.
Day time too was catered for, in the form of metallic coloured lace slithers, trench coats worn with alternating French knickers and silk slips, as well as pretty-as-a-peach vintage inspired, floral printed chiffon day dresses.
This collection is the perfect accompaniment to your next trip on the Orient Express or seductive night in a Parisian smoking bar. Just remember that if you play with fire – and be warned that wearing these luxurious creations is equivalent to playing with a Furness – you may just get burnt. Then again, life is short and these garments are gorgeous beyond belief – so we at Rescu. say “so what if a little smoke gets in your eyes”.
