Findings from Veet’s Real Cost Of Beauty Study show that aside from the hefty costs of professional beauty treatments, women are also spending almost 60 hours per year sitting at the salon.
Forty percent of those surveyed admit they place their beauty regiments before their social life, sleeping and shopping – with four percent admitting they even sacrifice their sex lives for time at the salon.
The DIY Beauty boom
As a result, women are starting to adopt a DIY approach to beauty treatments. According to international beauty trend experts WGSN, this new DIY beauty trend called ‘cocooning’ is fast gaining momentum amongst beauty junkies worldwide.
Rising up to meet this new DIY demand is a plethora of new at-home beauty products, gadgets and treatments; such as at-home hair removal devices, microdermabrasion kits, gel manicure kits, and electric cleansing tools–all designed to deliver salon-worthy results all in the comfort of your own home.
Other interesting findings of the Veet Real Cost of Beauty study include the fact that 26% of women will forgo a favoured outfit if they’ve forgotten to wax, and 13% of beauty junkies have even been known to skip a workout at the gym as a result.

Among those women who do get professionally waxed, a whopping 59% of women admit to feeling embarrassed by having to undress and reveal their bodies at the salon; which may also be a contributing factor in the rise of DIY beauty.
