Dolce & Gabbana now offer bespoke designs and Jil Sander’s aesthetic remains unchanged.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decided to start work on a bespoke line after merging their D&G and Dolce & Gabbana labels.
The couture collection will be unveiled during a presentation in Sicily on July 9.
Stefano previously said, “We have a new fine jewellery collection; one for men – and we also want to make something more special in the future, so couture? It’s possible.”
It is a busy time for the Italian design duo who will also launch their first ever childrenswear collection next month.
The pair say the line, which is aimed at newborns to 10-year-olds, will be just as stylish as their main collection.
Stefano said, “I didn’t know much about this world, but Domenico’s brother has three children aged two to six. The line is conceived as a further expansion of the Dolce & Gabbana world, in terms of product, design content, craftsmanship, function and positioning. This is an homage to Italy and to our tradition. It’s part of our culture and marks one of the most important moments in our lives.”
The German fashion designer – who took back the reins from Raf Simons at her eponymous fashion house in April – says her first womenswear collection after her seven year absence won’t break any boundaries when its showcased at Milan Fashion Week in September.
The 62-year-old sartorialist claimed that “everything, in a way, I’ve already said” and says she will stick to her motto of “the importance of the quality and of respecting heritage”.
Jil added to The New York Times, “That is why it’s so important to express this idea of the value in the design. We want to make essential clothes, clothes where you understand what the value is and why you pay more.”
“Now I have more skills and more experience and we’re in a different moment. Maybe it was good, maybe it was my destiny, that joint venture world and the time away.”
The designer founded the house in 1968, but left in 2004 after disagreement with new owners, the Prada group.
Jil – who most recently collaborated with Japanese high-street label Uniqlo – received rave reviews for her recent spring/summer 2012 menswear collection in Milan.
