Dolce and Gabbana Show at Milan Fashion Week, Mok Theorem and More

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Milan fashion week has arrived on the heels of some scandal this week, but that hasn’t seemed to dissuade Dolce and Gabbana  from putting out an opulent presentation, or Anna Della Russo from piling on the bling. The rain has seen us retreat into the world of fantasy this week,  and what the runways of Milan could not provide, we found in Mok Theorem, AFTER THE APPLE, and Willow‘s pop up in Paddington. Rug up and get lost with us…

Dolce and Gabbana Show at Milan Fashion Week

Dolce and Gabbana released a flurry of instagram shots throughout the week, drumming up the excitement for their Spring 2013 Menswear show on Monday, which reconnected the house with it’s Sicilian roots. The collection, entitled moltissimo Sicily, captured the essence of Sicily’s rustic heritage- not just the glamorous cliché of the red-lipped seductress, but the simplicity and vitality of village life. Using regular people rather than models, found in villages around the region, the men donned three piece suits, the children simply-belted linen shorts and rough-hemmed cotton shirts.

The entire collection was infused with the energy of summer (something I wouldn’t mind right about now!), with fun, screen-printed paintings on shirts and shorts. There was also a lot of skin on show, which felt like a vehement statement against the legal affairs that have overshadowed their show.

Check out video of the runway show.

Seeing Red: Mok Theorem Heats Up Winter

Mok theorum closet case

There’s no need to dissolve in to the shadows with neutral ensembles that lower your mood and mirror the gloomy weather. So say Mok Theorem, in their latest Winter style release. Red for Winter. It feels a little bold, a little dangerous, a little like a challenge to the gods of the weather. We say bring it on!

Mok Theorem SS 13/14 Moon Palace collection offers a multitude of desirable options. The vibrant collared playsuit was intended for sunnier times, but the sleeveless mid-length coat transcends seasonal codes, and the asymmetric tapered dress is cut to make a statement whatever the weather. Take these pieces as your cue for a bold injection of red into your cool weather wardrobe.

How to do it? Steer clear of the grating black and red combination in favour of rich camel, soft fawn and crisp white that sets off your statement piece.  If you opt for denim, choose a natural, all American wash, or a soft mushroom hue that won’t compete for attention. And the piece itself? We suggest Equipment’s cherry silk shirt, Dr Denim or Current/Elliott for jeans, and ASOS and Opening Ceremony for the ultimate red fedora or coat. Of course, accessories are always a versatile pick- red clutch, belt or scarf goes the distance in lifting an entire outfit. Be bold and see red.

We Love: AFTER THE APPLE

AFTER THE APPLE closet case

AFTER THE APPLE do not make “bags.” Nor do they fashion “clutches,” “totes” or “wallets.” No, AFTER THE APPLE , as they tell it themselves, make ‘receptacles,’ and do so with the authenticity and purity of vision that we have been craving recently. With a bag collaboration with New Zealand cool kid Karen Walker dating back to 2010, the brand has been catching eyes for a long time before we found them. The most recent collaboration with Walker features duelling navy and butter tones, with whimsical metallic detailing featuring Walker’s classic girlish designs.

Their main range is filled with simply rendered leather totes, satchels and slouch bags with python and metallic detailing. A new classic, we think.
