Josh Flinn, Rescu’s resident stylist shares his best fashion tips on how-to dress to impress this summer depending on your body type.
With temperatures rising and days getting longer it’s time to ditch the thicker fabrics and go for some summery fun! There are so many options for dresses this summer but not all dresses suit every body type.
I thought it was high time to give you a heads up on how to hit all the right notes no matter what your shape.

Pencil: Tall and thin is in, but sometimes pencil girls lose out in the shape stakes by choosing formless, loose fitting dresses that swamp the body. Instead, give yourself a sexier silhouette by going for styles that are fitted and short to show off your long legs or longer lines that have cut-outs, prints and panelling to show where you start and finish.

Pear: If you are a little bigger on the bottom try to make the most of what you’ve got by choosing dresses with a more fitted top half paired with a floaty bottom to skim your curves and balance you out. Empire, halter and strapless styles are perfect for pears and give you a lift and draw attention to your delicious décolletage! Short or long, if you follow this tip you can’t go wrong…

Hourglass: Like sands through the hourglass…make sure you don’t let style slip through your fingers by opting for dresses that hug your curves and nip at your waist. Make sure you don’t leave out your middle- it makes your shape! Three-quarter, figure hugging lace is bang on trend- add a pinch of cinch with a statement belt and you are good to go- Lucky Girl…

Apple: Short and sweet. Play up to this season’s colours and keep it light and bright on top. Bold brights or feminine florals will work, and if you need a little extra coverage there are some beautiful longer sleeved styles that are sure to please. Most apples are usually blessed with lovely legs so by making them the main attraction and choosing the most figure flattering top options you’ll be apples! (Sorry, I just HAD to throw that in!)
Don’t sweat the small stuff for summer! Dresses have and will always come in different shapes and sizes, just like women do. Don’t covet another girl’s shape- make the most of what your Mama gave you and always remember- By finding things that work with your body instead of against it, you will be much more comfortable in your own skin. It’s a waste of time to stare across the room longing for “THAT” girl’s legs- she probably wishes she had your boobs!
If you are healthy and look after yourself, the shape you have is the one that looks best on you.
