Over the weekend, Ellen DeGeneres brought her Sydney fans a whole lot of love while some of the world’s biggest stars including Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry gathered at USC’s Galen Center for the most fun, most colourful, and most slimey award ceremony around – the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Some 3000 devoted Ellen DeGeneres fans queued from midnight to catch the talk-show host’s free show live in the Royal Botanic Garden on Saturday.
As the star walked on stage a half hour late, she spoke Sydney’s praises, saying, “I love you all so much. You are used to this. I am looking for property, I am looking here,” before introducing her Aussie wife Portia de Rossi as, ‘Australia’s most beautiful export.’ Awww.
The show which followed was full of Ellen’s trademarks – humour, games, and a little dancing.
Guests included Russell Crowe, who tried to teach Ellen how to crack a cattleman’s whip, and Jessica Mauboy, who helped with a singing quiz and impersonated a kookaburra.
With a perfect Sydney Harbour backdrop, a whole lot of Aussie themed jokes and games, and a perfect sunny day, we’re sure the show will be a huge hit when it airs in America.
Today Ellen is setting off to spend a few days in Melbourne where she’ll be heading to Birrarung Marr park to greet her fans ahead of a VIP black tie reception for 300 guests at the Grand Hyatt.
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards – Red Carpet
Never one to stick to the norm, Nickelodeon opted for a purple carpet for celebrities to strike a pose on ahead of the awards ceremony and in the spirit of the awards all the celebs were decked out in their colourful best.
Fergie debuted her baby bump in a body-hugging dress with an incredible ocean print. It was perfectly matched by a pair of neon yellow sandals and the star was looking every bit the glowing mother-to-be.
Katy Perry turned up the heat and showed John Mayer exactly what he’s missing in a blue, yellow, and black Herve Leger two-piece. The crop top and skin-tight skirt showed off the singer’s best assets and her fresh-faced beauty look was perfect for the laid-back ceremony.
Single Selena was also out to show her ex what he’s missing out on in some white Oscar de la Renta short shorts and a baby blue peplum top. The star is actually guilty of outfit repeat with this one – in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar she wore the exact ensemble in a different colour. We can see why – it suits her perfectly and it’s rare that shorts are appropriate on the red carpet but at Nickelodeon’s young, fun affair, anything goes.
Kristen Stewart also took advantage of the more laid-back affair and wore a navy and black checkered shorts ensemble by Osman Yousefzada with a pair of Christian Louboutin black pumps.
The Kardashians obviously didn’t get the colour memo but looked stunning nonetheless. Khloe wore a figure hugging white dress that showed off her new slim figure and her little sister Kylie was in a black ensemble by MSFTS.
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards Ceremony
Dad-to-be Josh Duhamel played host for the night and the show opened with an adorable sketch featuring Sophia Grace and Rosie (of Ellen DeGeneres fame) in which they refer to Josh as ‘Mr. Fergie’ – we love!
Pitbull and Christina Aguilera got everyone in the mood with a performance of ‘Feel this Moment’ before it was announced that the voting this year broke Nickelodeon records – a huge 350 million were cast!
Selena Gomez took home the Favourite TV Actress award for Wizards of Waverly Place, Kristen Stewart surprised exactly no one when she went home very slimey and with two blimps – one for Favourite Movie Actress and another for Favourite Female Butt Kicker.
Ke$ha provided the mid-show entertainment with a performance that started out ‘We R Who We R’ then launched into ‘C’Mon’. Her performance was exactly what we’ve come to expect – leopard print, fur, laser lights, and a more glitter than sand at the beach.
In the music stakes, Katy Perry was awarded Favourite Female Singer and Justin Bieber took home the Favourite Male Singer.
With several stars leaving with green slime on their frocks, a bunch carrying orange blimps home, and smiles on everyone’s faces, it’s safe to say the ceremony was a huge success.
