Ellie Drennan, the sixteen year-old fan favourite with one heck of a voice has been crowned the winner of this year’s The Voice Australia.

After months of sweat, tears, pyrotechnics and key-changes, it was the audience that voted Team Jessie’s Ellie from the central coast of New South Wales the winner of the series. Here’s how:
Ellie wowed audiences with her stirring performances of Beyonce’s Halo (a gorgeous duet with coach Jessie J) Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U (surrounded by a ring of pouring water) and her original single, Ghost (in a sparkly, black and gold fringed shift).

Clearly moved by Ellie’s performance, an emotional Jessie was left speechless, fighting back tears of joy.
And Jessie wasn’t the only one. Despite their artists not making it through, the other coaches couldn’t hold back their excitement over the winner.
‘Ellie, I’m really proud of you. You’ve come so far in such a long time’ said Benji.
‘It’s magical. Very moving’ Said Ricky.
‘What don’t we have on this show? We have wind, we have fire, we have rain.’ Said Delta, after Ellie’s moving performance of Nothing Compares 2 U.

In response to the song, which left an impression on each judge, Ellie claimed that she struggled to connect emotionally to the song. But this didn’t hold the fans back from voting the young songstress into the final two (and continual chants of her name throughout the final), alongside English busker Joe Moore.
Twenty-four-year-old Joe Moore of team Madden was voted runner-up, while eighteen-year-old surfer/songwriter Nathan Hawes, also of Team Madden came in third.
‘I personally think Jessie is like a sister to me,’ Said Ellie, of her coach. ‘Jessie has pushed me out of my comfort zone… Thank you so much for always believing in me’.

When asked about her time as a coach of The Voice Australia, Jessie responded, ‘I’ve been blown away…I will say this…The hard work begins now for every single person who’s been on this show. You guys have the opportunity now to use the platform you’ve got to show who you really are…Thank you for having me!’
Of the winning song, Ellie said: ‘My song Ghost is about not fitting in and self-doubt which makes you feel like people can’t see or hear you.’ As the winner of the series, Ellie Drennan will recieve a record deal with Universal and $100,000. Her first single through Universal Music Australia, Ghost, is available now on Guvera.
