Game of Thrones, True Detective, Downton Abbey and Mad Men have swept the pool (as predicted) in this year’s Emmy Nominations. Find out who’s made the cut plus all the shocks and snubs of TV’s biggest awards.
The most watched (or illegally downloaded) series in Australia, Game of Thrones, has taken out a whopping 19 nominations for the 2014 Emmy Awards. Not that this was much of a surprise to Game of Thrones fans who will see the drama series up against television heavy-weights and nomination main-stays, Downton Abbey, Mad Men and Breaking Bad for the Best Drama Series title. New to the Best Drama Series list was True Detective with the show’s stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey also up for the gong for Best Actor in a Drama series.
In the comedy stakes, newcomers Silicon Valley and Orange is the New Black will both vie for outstanding comedy alongside The Big Bang Theory, Louie, Modern Family and Veep. Surprising nomination snubs included Mad Men star, Elizabeth Moss leaving it to Christina Hendricks and Jon Hamm to carry the torch for the series midway through its seventh and final season. The Good Wife was left off the best drama series list despite season five being its best yet, while Eric Stonestreet, Ed O’Neill and Sofia Vergara of Modern Family were noticeably absent from the list as was any mention of TV hit, Sons of Anarchy.
