Vampy dark nails pack some serious attitude. Rescu. shows you how to pull off moody shades with conviction. This season, feel free to choose your shade – just make sure it’s dark…
The latest batch of defiant darks comes in warm shades of deep brown, dark plum, inky red, copper and dark orange. Or if cooler dark shades are more your style, opt for navy blues, steely greys, pitch black and the latest crop of deep lavenders. Matte or metallic? You choose; if you’re a girl who loves dark, you live for taking risks.
Team darks with…
Whatever you like, but make sure there’s plenty of ‘tude. Think of your nail polish as another opportunity to finish off your outfit. If you’re going to the office, splash a darker colour across your nails to minx up a tailored business suit, handbag and high heels.
How to go dark
There’s no time like right now to get some inky black into your manicure kit. Here’s how to ease yourself into the dark side:
1. Shorter is chicer: keep nails short when applying darker polish – you don’t want to frighten young children with your scary witch-like nails.
2. Go for quality: Dark nail colours show up chips so look for a quality varnish and finish it with a top coat to strengthen the nail.
3. Dark training: Don’t start out with black if you’re used to French Pink. Work your way to pitch by experimenting with other dramatic hues. Sumptuous blackberry and wine varnishes are big this season. Or for a sexy deep purple, try OPI Lincoln Park After Dark.
4. In the black: When you’re ready for black, choose from a pure glossy black or something with a little twist – try a black with a blue hue, or one with a steely metallic shimmer
5. Beware the stain: Vampy shades are notorious for leaving a stain on your nails once you’ve removed them. Always use a basecoat before applying dark shades. And try applying a small dab of lotion on each nail bed before removing the colour with nail polish remover – it will prevent the pigment from bleeding onto skin.
