There’s a lot of hype around microneedling how effective it can be with treating scarring, wrinkles and large pores. Rescu expert Dr Ricky Allen speaks to one of Australia’s leading dermatologists Dr. Nina Wines about the process and what to expect
I spoke to one of Australia’s leading dermatologists Dr. Nina Wines of Castlecragg NSW. about micro needling. She had just finished addressing the national Dermatologist conference on this very subject. At her clinic Northern Sydney Dermatology, they perform a huge number of micro-needling treatments every year. Not only do they perform them as standalone treatments but they also use micro-needling as a precursor to other treatments as well as to enhance the uptake of topically applied ingredients. The doctors prescribe the treatment and then they have trained clinicians who perform it. There is very good clinical data said Dr. Wines that shows the effectiveness of micro-needling. The length of the needle dictates the results but in saying that different lengths will be used for different skin and medical concerns. It can be used on all skin types but care must be taken in prescribing the right needle lengths for darker skin clients.
Dr. Wines also suggests that at home micro-needling devices are very effective to support the in- clinic treatments as well as to support at home skincare regimes. The clinician performing micro-needling must take care not to use too much pressure or over vigorous application as this can lead to bruising or crusting. Dr. Wines stresses that the clinician you attend must be very experienced in this procedure to ensure the best complication free results .People should not be purchasing micro-needling equipment from the internet but rather from qualified professionals in the clinics or medi spas to ensure that the length of the needle is appropriate and also that they are given proper instructions in home use.
