Who doesn’t have something to hide? Whether it’s dark circles, pigmentation, blemishes, uneven skin tone or rosacea, we all feel better with a little coverage. The problem is that coverage can also lead to terrible make-up faux pas and a caked-on face mask. So we asked Celeste David, National Educator for Jane Iredale Mineral Make-up, how to deal with pesky skin flaws.
Tip #1 from Jane Iredale’s National Educator, Celeste David:
“Choose make-up that is made up of a variety of particle sizes that overlap like fish scales and hold tightly to the skin – resulting in complete, unsurpassed coverage.”
Tip #2:
“Choose make-up that has concentrated pigment, undiluted by talc and other fillers so that camouflage can be fast and easy, especially when covering any type of redness or erythema.”
RESCU: Why are minerals are so effective for creating a smooth skin tone?
Celeste David: “Minerals reflect, refract and diffuse light, creating a soft focus effect, which minimises imperfections. The best way to achieve flawless skin is to layer the minerals using the correct tools. Start lightly and build up to the amount of coverage you require.”
RESCU: How do we cover REDNESS?
Celeste David recommends: “Yellow-based powders to conceal redness without dulling the skin – try PurePressed Base or Amazing Base for fuss-free coverage. “
Myth buster: “Covering redness by using green-based products is actually a big no-no as it leaves skin looking grey and chalky.”
RESCU: How do we disguise UNDER EYE CIRCLES?
Celeste David: “Always choose a colour that matches your skin tone, or is slightly lighter.
Apply the product to the inside corner of the eye and the entire under eye area. Use your ring finger to smooth and blend the edges.
If under eye shadows are a problem, apply your base first and bring it up under the eye using a clean eye shadow brush.
If you require further coverage, apply Circle/Delete or Active Light with the Camouflage Brush. Both products are packed with beneficial ingredients that nourish the eye area.”
How do we banish BLEMISHES?
Celeste David: “Always choose products that are completely non-comedogenic and allow the skin to breathe and function normally. They do not support bacteria and help to soothe and calm inflammation. They can be worn on sensitive or allergy-prone skin whilst dramatically improving the skin’s appearance.
An added bonus of mineral make-up is that when applied to the skin, the minerals scatter light like reflecting mirrors, obscuring imperfections and giving the illusion of perfection. If applied properly, a light coverage of mineral make-up can improve the look of almost every complexion for clear, healthy looking skin.”
RESCU: How do we combat HYPER-PIGMENTATION?
Celeste David: “This can be one of the hardest skin concerns to camouflage. For any hyper-pigmented areas, it’s best to camouflage with orange or pink-based concealers, which are particularly helpful for counteracting grey, which occur usually under eye circles, but can also be on other areas of the face.
If pink or purple discoloration is visible under the eyes or anywhere on the skin, it’s best to use yellow-based products.”
