There are so many great oils out there in skincare-land. Here’s our pick of a few goodies that work wonders on the face…
We know that oils are good for us, for both the inside and outside of our bodies. We eat them in foods, take them in supplements and put them on our skin, either directly or through the use of skincare products. Surprisingly, they are good for a number of different skin types, even those with oily skin can use facial oils if they pick the right ones. It’s a misconception that oils always make skin oilier. In fact there are oils that help rebalance the skin, and others such as Evening Primrose Oil that can help to banish acne.
Evening Primrose Oil
Rich in the omega 6 fatty acids: linolenic acid (LA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Can be used to assist in the treatment of skin conditions, such as acne, psoriasis and eczema. Try Natio Evening Primrose Moisturising Face Lotion ($12.95).
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil (pronounced hohoba) has been called The Wonder Oil. Rich in Vitamin E and a powerful antioxidant, it’s good for all skin types. Its properties are very similar to human sebum and because of this, it is known to assist the healing process of damaged skin and be good for acne (it actually helps to clean the pores), psoriasis and eczema. It restores elasticity and is known to reduce superficial lines, making it a natural anti-ageing gem. Try Sodashi Balancing Serum ($106.50).
Rosehip Oil
Dermatologists and health practitioners endorse its clinically proven healing and repairing properties, and use this oil to treat scarring. Rich in fatty acids Oleic, Linoleic and Linolenic, and Vitamins A and C. Rosehip is used to relieve eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, dry or inflamed skin conditions, and minor burns, including sunburn, cuts, scratches, abrasions and itching. Try Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil ($20).
Lavender Oil
It’s the oil of healing and wellbeing. Also known for its antiseptic, analgesic and stimulant properties. Try Aveda Balancing Infusion For Sensitive Skin ($54.95).
Grape Seed Oil
High in antioxidants and vitamin E. Commonly found as a base in moisturisers for its nourishing properties. Try Aësop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum ($92).
