Paris dreaming
Don’t have a spare $100,000 lying around for a new dress? Never mind, the Paris Haute Couture shows last week still made for envious viewing for the rest of us.
Whether it was the sheer brilliance of Alexis Mabille and Valentino, the sugar-spun confections at Dior, the crystalline charm of Chanel or the haute punk chic at Gaultier, the pinnacle of fashion kept us enthralled. But of course, thanks to the trickle-down effect, it looks like we’ll all be embracing embellishment for some to come, as well as lightweight, feminine styles. And, if the Armani Privé show is anything to go by, the metallic trend will keep us looking fashion forward for some time yet. His liquid-silver pieces were especially entrancing. So next time you’re hitting the shops, keep an eye out for heavy sequinning and high-shine materials—Mr Armani says so.
Haute Society
Of course, it’s not just the catwalk creations that have us agog, the front-row fixtures also keep us riveted. French It Girl Lou Doillon shows that you can take the metallic trend and ground it with some rock-chic booties and a little French attitude, as seen here before the Chanel show, wearing, of course, a contemporary twist on the traditional Chanel tweed. Perhaps a shimmering miniskirt is just what your wardrobe needs?
Diane Kruger, also pre-Chanel, again proves her fashion clout, this time in the nude trend, finished off with some beautiful embellishment. Her black accessories give a great fullstop to this look. Note that Euro-fabulous, less-is-more make-up look and easy-care hair on both style-setters.
Shine, baby, shine
Speaking of metallics… As any new mum will attest, baby bags traditionally haven’t been known for their style status. Until now. Il Tutto’s range is a step above the rest, and this week it launches a limited edition bronze version of its popular Nico tote. It has all the practical features you need in a baby bag—insulated bottle holder, clear plastic zip pockets, for example—but housed in a chic, on-trend tote. Sweet! $599; iltutto.com.au.
