From the fresh faces of the Raffles International Showcase to fashion pack favourites such as Dion Lee, Jayson Brunsdon and Bianca Spender, Wednesday was a full day of sartorial delights across Carriageworks and beyond. As always, the much anticipated fashions were accompanied by equally innovative hair and beauty surprises, and Rescu. was on site to capture all the highlights.
Dion Lee’s show offered one of our favourite looks of the day, with an emphasis on real and relaxed beauty (a fabulous look to emanate at home). Redken’s Jon Pulitano took the lead on hair, creating a look that he described as tough, young and inspired partly by Japanese culture with a contemporary half head top knot forming adding quirky flair to the look.
MAC Cosmetics’ James Molloy teamed this unique hairstyle with ultra natural beauty that was built on a foundation of skincare rather than heavy makeup. MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer was used to hide imperfections and provide models with a flawless nude look.
Suboo was another highlight, with tropical prints teamed with the outdoorsy beach inspired beauty that Australian Fashion Week is so well known for. ‘We’re doing a very clean, polished look, very resort feel,’ said Sebastian Professional Creative Director Sue Di Chio. ‘It’s sort of got that feel, like the model’s just come out of the water, and just combed her hair back with her fingers.’
Much of the day felt as though it was building towards the evening’s big Swarovski runway presentation, and with necklaces and earrings forming such a key part of the Swarovski collection, we couldn’t wait to see how hair and beauty would be used to compliment the brand’s signature glittering beauties.
Redken’s Paloma Garcia created loose, feminine curls for the Swarovski models who were lead by the stunning Shanina Shaik. ‘It’s very nice and natural,’ said Garcia. ‘Nothing too shiny, nothing too matte, just a very nice natural look.’
In contrast to the nude look that has been so prevalent across this year’s Fashion Week Australia, the look Maybelline’s Nigel Stanislaus created for Swarovski was more like what we’d love to wear to a glamorous party. Smokey, smouldering eyes were teamed with bronzed cheeks for a look that was sexy as can be, and yet subtle enough to be a perfect match for Swarovski’s iconic sophistication.
