This week in fashion, we have decided to focus on one key event, and yes, it’s only the biggest fashion event of the year- New York Fashion Week!
NYFW was a whirlwind of excitement, designer threads and utter beauty and talent. The best part about NYFW is discovering unknown labels, and emerging talent that is setting the industry in a new direction, and of course there are our well known favourites too that keep the week filled with tradition an excitement.
Elegance ran deep in Parkchoonmoo
Designer Choonmoo Park brought utter elegance to the collection for her RTW Spring 2011, through soft floating layers and deconstructed lines. The collection remained largely cast in white, with powerful and deep infusions of black and navy. Sheer played a steady role in layers and necklines ran deep, adding depth and billowing detail to each look.
Jason Wu woos his guests with city chic
Jason Wu looked to traditional English influences for his city chic collection- which focused on fine tailoring, wearable prints and geek chic accessories. Organza and lace chiffon were layered under tweed coats and suits, and waists were cinched in super tight to create fine lines and a feminine finish. Powerful pops of colour woke up the collection, from a vibrant pink body con dress, to a ruffled hem purple dress and stunning floor length evening gowns that topped off an all together covetable collection.
Diane Von Furstenberg bounced with powerful prints
Diane Von Furstenberg is a label that many fashion lovers know and adore- and when such a steady label continues to produce show-stopping collections like the latest RTW Spring 2011, it’s clear to see why it’s so loved. DVF paraded powerful prints through easy to wear floating dresses and printed pants and singlet combos. The collection featured stunning zig-zag prints, through aquas, limes and yellows, with subtle touches of rose pink and black and white. Of course the signature DVF wrap dress featured, and it’s obvious the hottest look for spring will be a relaxed pant and singlet combo, or a floating easy-to-wear dress.
Fabulous fun on the runway of Jeremy Scott
Jeremy Scott has been known as the bad boy of the fashion industry, with his tongue-in-cheek slogan prints that made him famous. But his signature style has only gotten more daring over the years, and NYFW 2010 saw him rise to the occasion with his quirky, sexy and all out fun designs. Whilst many critics were shocked by the ‘tasteless’ designs from the young designer, we are guessing his strong following will remain just that. The collection featured guys and girls threads, with a focus on the feminine figure, moving into cinched body con dresses and bustier cups with high waisted skirts. The crop top is set to be big for Spring, and Jeremy showed he is all for this recurring trend.
