The Next Big Trend – Big Glasses
Anne Hathaway, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Trachtenberg, Cate Blanchett. Spot the common factor?
Maybe you don’t – but all these lovely ladies wear glasses, and it’s now become a Hollywood staple to show your lack of 20-20 vision in style.
No longer geek chic, Anne Hathaway showed up to the premiere of Rio in Gucci and enormous hipster glasses, more reminiscent of 1980s librarians than a woman on a red carpet. Apparently hipsters can kiss their too-cool dorky-glasses style goodbye, since once Hollywood gets onto a trend, it works it to death.
Collette Dinnigan Goes To Court
The esteemed Australian designer who, along with Charlie Brown and Lisa Ho, carved a place for fashion in the 90s, is in some legal trouble – but she’s raring to go.
Ms Dinnigan is suing Colette Accessories – one ‘L’ – for allegedly attempting to fool Dinnigan’s customers into believing they were buying her designs.
However, the Colette in question, a Colette Hayman of Sydney, is fighting back, saying that she is an accessory rather than a clothing designer and so doesn’t intrude on Dinnigan’s turf at all. She may also point out that Dinnigan’s customers can usually spell, too.
Sophie Cranston The Next Name In The Kate Middleton Hat
The royal wedding excitement is mounting – at least among royal watchers – and this week a rumour slipped out that Kate Middleton’s dress designer is not at all who’d you expect.
Sophie Cranston – who? Precisely – founded her label, Libelula, after working for Alexander Mcqueen and Temperley, who were also in the running for The Dress. Kate wore the black diamante-clasp dress at left, a Sophie Cranston design, to a wedding ealier in the year.
If Kate has chosen Cranston for a wedding which will be televised globally, she can be sure to expect a lot of new orders.
John Galliano No Longer Head Of His Own Label
Plagued fashion designer John Galliano has been fired as head of his own eponymous label, John Galliano.
The move was expected, as Galliano has made headlines recently for anti-Semitic, alcohol-fuelled rants, and was removed as the head designer of Dior almost immediately.
Donna Karan, for her part, leapt to Galliano’s defence, calling him “a wonderful designer, a brilliant designer, and he probably needs help right now.”
Coachella Fashion: Beach Chic Crossed With Hippie Madness
Coachella, the music and arts festival in the middle of the American desert, is on again, and the stars are out in full to celebrate.
Bright young things from Kate Bosworth and Lindsey Lohan to Paul McCartney and Dita von Teese graced the hot festival grounds, sporting shades, sandals and – in von Teese’s case – a bright 1940s vintage frock. Check out the gallery of looks here.
Want to go Coachella next summer? You’ll need leather fringed sandals, a hot bikini, a light summer dress, short shorts and some statement sunglasses. Paparazzi smile and incredible amounts of dust not included.
