Alex Perry for Specsavers
Alex Perry’s moved up in the world – from the body to the face. The launch of his slinky new spectacle line for Specsavers will inspire the less visually-blessed of the Australian fashion-gawking crop. Models in 50s silhouettes of thick, subtle metallics, an updated version of Louis Vuitton’s 2011 super-feminine wasp-waists, showed off a range of thick-framed, gilded glasses with intricate detailing. Kelly Osbourne as face of Material Girl
Goodbye, Taylor Momsen – the newly tiny British celebrity Kelly Osbourne is the next face for the Material Girl clothing line of Madonna and teen daughter Lourdes. Momsen, a Gossip Girl actress who has a tendency to wear thigh-high stockings and little else, claims her contract ended, but insiders say Kelly’s more of a ‘fit’ for the brand for teens. If all goes well, Material Girl might start supplying internationally, but for now it’s only available via the US.
Crystal Renn
Ms Renn, the plus-size ‘model of the moment’ at left, has encountered a wave of criticism since losing weight recently. After appearing in a spread looking slightly less voluptuous, the young model, who wrote the memoir Hungry about her battles with an eating disorder, has been criticised as a hypocrite. She responded in an interview that, to maintain a ‘plus-size’ weight all the time, she’d have to develop a binge-eating disorder instead. Her agency had no comment.
Selena Gomez
Got a tween in the house with a crush on the Disney girl’s style? From this week, Big W is selling Selena Gomez’s Dream Out Loud line. It’s primarily dresses and tops in clean nauticals and girlie florals in modest, cute cuts, for the young casual fashionista. Tweens are notoriously picky about their clothing, but this is something that’s sure to please both parents and girls. Hey, if it worked on Justin Bieber…
New York Fashion Week
Fashion Week has descended on the Big Apple, and the celebrities have filed out accordingly. Follow Rescu. for an up-to-date run-down of the shows, the big fashion finds, the newcomers and the big mistakes. The big trends, according to the Saks Fifth Avenue fashion director Colleen Sherin: bold colours, the 1970s and middle-length skirts. Still not in: unwalkable heels. Christian Siriano sent his models out in shoes so high that three actually fell to their knees.
