Cate Blanchett has stunned the fashion world – simply by looking like herself…
All we can say is, bring on the SK-II.
Cate Blanchett has appeared on a magazine cover without Photoshop, and she looks radiant, putting Vogue and their Photoshopping companions on the back foot.
Intelligent Life put Blanchett on the cover to celebrate her Australian success with the Sydney Theatre Company and new ventures. And the 42-year-old fashion icon, who’s commonly voted one of the world’s most beautiful women, certainly does not disappoint on the cover, with fine lines and all.
Photoshop and image manipulation has become so common on magazine covers that the decision to leave Blanchett au naturel was controversial- so much so that the editor of Intelligent Life had to release a statement about it.
Not too long ago, a furor engulfed Jessica Simpson when she chose to appear without makeup or Photoshop on the cover of a US magazine, to similar excited reactions.
Blanchett was once described by photographer Annie Liebowitz as one of her best photographic subjects – so confident she could model almost anything. And Intelligent Life is certainly proving that true yet again.
Debate has erupted yet again about whether a little Photoshop is acceptable to ‘trim’ unacceptable parts or unavoidable marks like bruises/dark shadows, or whether it’s open to abuse.
Several ads have now been banned in the UK for being overly Photoshopped, and Demi Moore’s current ad for Helena Rubinstein is being ridiculed for making her as smooth-skinned as a mannequin.
What do you think of Blanchett’s dramatic natural look?

A Naomi Campbell wedding would be the wedding of the century.
After all, she nearly hijacked Kate Moss’s nuptials last year – the supermodel apparently said, to her cheerfully “Trying to upstage me, bitch?” when Naomi was nearly an hour late.
But Campbell, who’s reportedly engaged to billionaire Vladimir Doronin, may walk down the aisle after all. Fashion gossips are whispering that Doronin may finally get that pesky divorce he’s been avoiding for nearly ten years.
Doronin has a wife in Russia who previously called his relationship with Campbell a “fling” and dismissed the idea of getting a divorce, but it seems she may have come around to the idea.
The problem? Ekaterina Doronin may cite Campbell as the reason for their split in Russian divorce court, leading to red faces all round – though Campbell insists Vladimir and Ekaterina had been done for years before she entered the scene.
Doronin certainly doesn’t seem to think it’s a problem – after all, he apparently proposed to Campbell despite the existence of his wife.
So whom do you think Naomi should wear on her wedding day? We’re guessing one of the big names – Chanel, Dior, Givenchy- though she’s also shown a real fondness for McQueen. One thing’s for sure – the girl can wear white.
Stay tuned – Rescu. will keep you posted on whether she gets her happily ever after, or is left with the supermodel second-best.
