The big news of last week was the David Jones versus Myer fashion battle. So what did the international critics have to say on the tussle? Rescu. clues you in…
David Jones and Myer are a classic Aussie rivalry, but their battling fashion shows last week also made waves overseas.
Rescu. has rounded up the international opinions of the winners – and it’s divided pretty fairly.
David Jones’ investment in Miranda Kerr has paid off in spades as far as overseas attention goes. Spots on her style in the show appeared in The Daily Mail, Popsugar, InStyle, The Sun and USA Today only a few hours after the show.
Most of the attention was on Kerr’s sizzling appearance – she was called ‘Australia’s hottest export’ – but Carla Zampatti’s white swimsuit and Alex Perry’s red carpet gown also earned rave reviews.
The Zampatti swimsuit may soon fly off the shelves because of its international exposure.
However, some news outlets didn’t even bother to promote the labels Kerr was wearing – but that’s the risk of hiring one of the world’s top models.
So what’s the news with Myer? The overall attention level was lower – mostly because nobody in the Myer camp is married to Orlando Bloom – but the buzz was a bit different, earning accolades from artsier, more fashion-forward critics.
The Colour Of Summer-themed bash earned accolades for specific items, most of all sass & bide’s new lingerie range, which was touted by the highest of all high priestesses in fashion: Vogue itself.
We think it’s split pretty evenly – though Myer may want to grab itself another Aussie supermodel on the rise to get the paparazzi’s attention.

Mustard, ochre, neon – yellow is having a massive fashion moment.
From Carven’s mustard leather dress to Paul Smith’s vivid butter-yellow leather boots, Rescu. is loving the summer feeling.
Here are the top pieces to let the sunshine in.
A bright yellow plain or patterned cardigan is always a fantastic way to brighten an outfit and add some 1940s flair. Look for a yellow that brightens your skin rather than sapping it out: bright is better for people with darker skin, muted yellows for those who are paler.
N.Peal on The Outnet has a splendid daffodil number in cashmere for the last days of winter.
A skirt in yellow is a 60s flush for an outfit, and the overall theme is short or pencil-tight. Big flowing skirts might overwhelm – we’re loving J.Crew’s lemon yellow pencil skirt in leather, or Lisa Ho‘s taffeta-ruffled version over at David Jones.
A clutch is a good way to let the colour pop without sacrificing an entire palette. Pair it with blues or greens – the colour clash is still in, and deep colours strike good tones together.
The best place to go? Mimco – their Molten Envelope clutch, in a vivid shade of yellow, will cheer the best outfit. It’s been sighted on red carpets the world over. Match your nails carefully – a vibrant pink’s a great plan.
Shoes are an often-neglected place for bright colour. Let this be your season for bravery – get some Marni polka-dot flats, with their neon spots, or Louboutin leather brogues in sunshine-brights.
A bit leaner in the wallet? Check out ASOS online – we’re loving their Gienchi studded yellow hi-top trainers, and there are even some citrus-and-herringbone platform sandals.
Have you got the yellow fever?
