We find out what Keira Knightly wore for her low-key wedding, find out why Tiffany & Co might not be so happy with Carey Mulligan, and suggest some stellar Mother’s Day gifts.
She said she was going to have a low-key wedding – and Keira Knightley has stayed true to her word.
She married her partner, Klaxons guitarist James Righton, in a civil service in France this weekend – and it took this season’s simplicity trend to a new level.
She wore a daisy chain in her hair, Chanel flats and boucle jacket, and a short strapless tulle dress. However, that dress had an impressive secret.
It was designed for her by Rodarte – but not for the wedding. The pale pink classic full-skirted creation was custom-made for Knightley a full five years ago, where she wore it to a pre-BAFTA party.
No flowers, no sweeping Mariah Carey train, a 10-minute ceremony and 11 guests? How very pared-back chic.
Low-key weddings are increasingly the norm among recession-hit fashionistas. Famous DJ Mark Ronson married Josephine Le Baume, a French singer and muse to several French designers, in an incredibly simple ceremony – and the bride wore 1940s-style polka dot Valentino.
And Nancy Shevell wed Paul McCartney in a teeny-tiny ceremony and an incredibly chic white wedding suit by Paul’s daughter Stella.
Do you love the whole low-key fashion wedding idea?

The secret problem with hiring gorgeous, one-of-a-kind gems for movies?
You have to let the stars touch them. Carey Mulligan discovered this difficulty during filming of the soon-to-be-released Great Gatsby, where, she revealed, she accidentally broke a Tiffany pearl necklace made exclusively for her character.
The jewels on the Gatsby set have entered fashion folklore, with Cartier and Tiffany contributing millions of dollars worth of 1920s-style diamonds, tiaras, earrings and headbands. And as is standard practise, every actor was shadowed by security guards to make sure they didn’t pull a Lohan and disappear.
However, those guards found a different purpose when Mulligan broke the necklace.
“I wore a pearl necklace around my wrist and I broke it,” she said to Vogue. “They went everywhere. I’ve never seen a group of people react so fast. It was like, fifteen people fell to the floor, because they were real pearls.”
Mulligan was terrified that she was going to be fired after the accident – but she made it into the film, and presumably all the pearls were recovered or paid for.
That’s the other secret of the gem-lending business in Hollywood: very hefty insurance.

What do you get for the mother who has everything? Something endlessly chic is always a good start.
As it’s getting into cooler weather, a gorgeous scarf is always welcome. Wool and silk blends are very in this season, with both Burberry and Stella McCartney putting out divine versions – it’s incredibly soft and warm while still being light enough to knot.
If your mum travels a lot, a designer cosmetics case is a brilliant gift. We love Mulberry’s textured leathers and Marni‘s on-trend floral cases. Alannah Hill produces a pretty black-and-white version with a girlie white bow if your mum’s more inclined towards the feminine look.
For the ardent walker or watcher of sport, you can’t go wrong with a very stylish umbrella. Burberry’s classic white version with border detail will impress all the other punters, while Marc by Marc Jacob’s cult kiss-print umbrella is all about look-at-me.
For good jewellery, Aussie staple Dinosaur Designs always does killer statement pieces for all ages. Look into the bangles and bracelets rather than the more outre necklaces – unless, of course, your mother loves to be noticed. Otherwise, Tiffany’s – always Tiffany’s. A sterling silver T & Co bangle is the ultimate jewellery gift.
If your mum’s active and gym-loving, get into the Adidas By Stella McCartney range – they’ve produced a cult yoga mat and holster, some intensely cool running shoes and shell jackets for running in all weathers. We love.
And a pretty new watch never goes out of style. Fossil‘s Heather leather watch is classic and oversize, while Vivienne Westwood‘s Rococo version is delicate and extremely feminine. Or, for an in-between option, Marc by Marc Jacobs‘ Amy Cognac watch is the right balance of chic and classic.
