Nicole Kidman’s renowned for her red carpet risks – from big couture to towering heels – but she gives her husband Keith Urban a good deal of the credit. Read on for just exactly how he’s changed her style…
She’s the face of Omega and has starred in one of the most expensive ad campaigns in the world for Chanel No 5, but Nicole Kidman still says Keith Urban keeps her down to earth.
What’s more, he’s influenced her red carpet style.
“I’ve actually changed when my husband’s said something is not great,” she confessed this week.
Stylists have no power over Urban, either – “he likes natural and he likes something not so ‘done’, which I would say speaks to a lot of men,” Kidman added.
“I’ve definitely changed my style since I’ve been with him,” she said – and also revealed that before she goes to an event she faces a panel of judges, consisting of Keith and her two daughters (even though one’s only 2 years old!)
When Kidman was with Tom Cruise, her style was one of the most micro-managed parts of their marriage – with rumours that she wasn’t allowed to wear high heels and was always restricted to simpler shapes.
Now that’s long ago, Kidman’s stepped into the couture spotlight. Her L’Wren Scott dress at the Oscars, inspired by a Klimt painting, was on every best-dressed list in town. Scott is actually her own personal stylist. Can you imagine having every L’Wren dress you wanted at the drop of a hat?
And she’s softened the radical blonde she had before she married Urban, too – into something far closer to the redhead we love. Overall, whatever Urban’s doing, we say keep doing it – she’s never looked better.

When you think Marilyn Manson, you think shock-rock, weird stage costumes and some very odd make-up choices.
Now, however, you’re also going to have to think high fashion. Saint Laurent, to be precise.
It’s been revealed that Saint Laurent has hired Manson to be the new face of the brand, with a print ad shot by new head designer Hedi Slimane himself running in all the major fashion glossies.
It’s simple – a gigantic black-and-white photograph of Manson’s face, and on the opposing page the simple slogan Saint Laurent – but it’s causing major waves across the industry.
It means the 90s is back, and that Saint Laurent, which as YSL was all about the evening glamour and slick nighttime looks of Paris and New York, is embracing grunge with a passion.
The campaign was initially seen as so unlikely that the fashion industry dismissed it as an April Fools joke, but it’s no joke – and Manson will shortly be the front-row face at all Saint Laurent shows.
Grunge is seeing a major 2013 comeback, but Manson’s particular variety of 90s fashion – think platform vinyl heels, floor-length leather and corsetry – isn’t part of the new trend. Or is it?

Duchess Catherine may be her name now, but she’ll always be Kate Middleton to us – and now you can get her signature style.
One of her favourite labels, the London-based Issa, has decided to cope with the huge surge in interest by collaborating with The Outnet on a special range of dresses.
The reason? On their own, the small label can’t deal with the demand.
Camilla al Fayed, the chairwoman, revealed, “It absolutely sky-rocketed the brand on a global scale, but it was too much. Demand was so huge the business couldn’t cope. If Kate wears a Zara dress, these huge companies have the backing to follow through. Issa was run by interns, students and [designer] Daniella Helayel. There was no business model.”
However, al Fayed’s investment – she now owns 51% of the company, while Helayel still has full creative control – has made all the difference.
If the same sounds familiar, she’s the daughter of Mohamed al Fayed, the owner of Harrods – and, in a strange and sad twist, the half-sister of Dodi al-Fayed, Princess Diana’s last boyfriend, who also died in the tragic 1997 car crash in Paris.
Issa’s collection for The Outnet is focussed on pieces the Kate-watchers will love: stretch jersey, emphasis on tiny waists, glorious bright colours and very modern fit.
We can see the Duchess buying out the entire collection for a post-pregnancy reward.
