It’s been a busy week in Australian fashion and abroad, with the launch of the AW 2011 David Jones collections. We also peak a look at Rachel Zoe’s debut collection and more…
Bold and bright on the runway of David Jones AW 2011 Launch
The David Jones AW 2011 Launch was held this week in Sydney, at the David Jones flagship store on Elizabeth St. Naturally it was a celebrity fest of models, designers and the who’s who of the Australian fashion industry.
The collections on show brought bold colour for the coming Autumn/Winter here in Australia, with a large focus on reds, purples and neutrals. Amongst the high end labels showing were Collette Dinnigan, Josh Goot, Dion Lee
, Ginger and Smart and Lisa Ho, who all brought us beautiful women’s wear.
The trends hot off the runway included bold and bright cocktail dresses (think fire engine red and sunshine yellow), black leather, and touches of animal print!
Jean Paul Gaultier’s powerful Spring Couture show
We brought you the beautiful collections of Chanel and Valentino from the recent Spring Couture week, but we couldn’t resist also showing you the wonderful creations by Jean Paul Gaultier.
The designer explained that ‘punk cancan’ was the theme of his show, and, in true Gaultier style, it was surely theatrical. Envision coloured mohawks, boundless amounts of tulle, studs and fishnet stockings- this set the grounds for the couture to really thrive.

Black was prominent throughout the collection, with shoulders peaked high in power cut blazers and teamed with ultra skinny black leggings. Body con cuts were proudly worked down the runway, with each model oozing sex appeal and confidence. Powerful business suitswere given a modern face lift, with embellishment and heightened shoulders, and each look was accessorized with dark eyewear or long cigarettes.
Welcomed colour entered the runway through silver beaded jumpers, maroon crystal embellished pants and a show stopping multi coloured power suit. The models were overall powerful and executed the range
perfectly, and once again, Jean Paul Gaultier proved why he is a king of couture.
Rachel Zoe debuts her first collection
We all know the name Rachel Zoe, but what many of us may not be aware of is the stylist’s recent move into designing her own label. As a stylist to some of the biggest celebrity names in the world, we can only expect her collection to be amazing. And it seems the U.S department stores Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Intermix have agreed, as they have already signed up to stock the label.
The first collection from her eponymous label features staple wardrobe must haves such as the black blazer, cocktail dress and pant suit. But in true Rachel Zoe style, each piece is worked with her quirky detail to design, using bold bright colours and neutrals. We love the autumn inspired colours that tend to stand out in the collection- from maroon cigarette style pants to taupe body suits. It’s sophisticated yet playful and we love it all!
